Murphy’s Law states anything that can go wrong will go wrong. In Miles’ head, that is EXACTLY how his relationship with Phoenix will go. Not because of anything Phoenix does, for he is a wonderful partner, but some way somehow Miles will screw things up.
He can’t decide whether to brace for the worst or to enjoy it while it lasts.

Summary
Miles knew better than to try and contact Phoenix. His disbarment gave their friendship such a sharp edge that it was near impossible to even get close.
However, Miles couldn’t just ignore his job. A part of him wanted to get closer to Phoenix, because of course disbarment didn’t do anything to the profound love he had for the man. It actually just made him want a relationship more.
(Or, Miles staying at Phoenix’s house for “job related purposes”, and trying to express his care and love for Phoenix)

Now, Phoenix has done and is still doing some crazy nonsense that continues to baffle him to his very core. Being disbarred hasn’t been easy for him, but even he has to admit that whatever is going on is quite… Bizarre.
Trucy might be promoting him to magical mythic status and is smiling very brightly at the sight, but…
Phoenix does very much like his legs and feet, and he doesn’t think having a tail will make riding a bike easy in the slightest.
(Or, Phoenix gets cursed to become a Merman whenever he’s in water during his disbarment thanks to Iris)

Summary
Miles already hates the month of December enough for all that it brings up, from the invasion of Christmas music to heart tearing panic inducing nightmares.
Sure, Miles’ nightmares have improved largely since when he was in his early years after the incident.
Sure, Miles has Phoenix and Trucy to give his mind peace and joy from all their wonderful shenanigans during the Christmas season.
And sure, Miles knows there isn’t much that can pull him back into those horrible horrible moments of pure agony and despair since Phoenix is always there with a hug and kisses…
Yet just being horribly horribly sick ends up enhancing the pain in more ways than one, even when logic and time says you’ve healed.
And it doesn’t help that you said something stupid to your husband and now he’s ignoring you…
(Or, I enjoy Edgeworth suffering and decided to make him sick during his all time least favorite month of the year and during a certain anniversary with a certain frustrated husband who refuses to acknowledge him.)
