“Hey there,” he greeted, giving Grendan an almost confident grin. “Hardwon Surefoot. What’s your deal?”
He was human, that was easy to tell from his height and the round curve of his ear, but he wore dwarven braids in his beard. They let their eyes drift over them - no familial braids that they were familiar with, no marriage braids or fancy ornamentation, just some indicating loyal friendship and achievements in mining - then they met his eyes again.
“What’s… my deal?” they asked and his eyes widened at their voice. They wanted to be offended, but they couldn’t help but laugh at the surprise on his face.

Grendan didn't spend much time in dwarven taverns, or bars in general, not without York and Rosé at least. So maybe it felt a bit like fate that they happened to choose tonight to go drinking alone.
