    “Annabeth Chase,” the man repeated, as if it meant something more than just a random name. “Isn’t that why you chose this house?”

    “Why, on Earth, would I pick a house based on whether or not this Annabeth Chase was my neighbour?” Percy asked.

    “To catch the cat!” the man explained, and Percy sincerely laughed.

    “What cat?” Percy asked, now wondering if he had drunk something that tasted bad or a bit out of the ordinary. He must have been sleeping, having those weird dreams some people claim have meanings but, in the end, were just a bunch of thoughts squeezed together in a juice jar.

    “The one with the key."

    OR,

    Percy wants a new beginning back where he came from. He moves to New Rome, a quaint neighbourhood in New York, where every single man seems to make a life out of chasing a yellow cat with a key around its neck. Whoever catches it, apparently, won't be denied the prize they all seek: Annabeth Chase's — the most beautiful woman around — hand in marriage.

    Percy doesn't get it, and much less wants to engage with such activities or with the mysterious woman. But it's a bit harder when she lives just next doors, and the yellow cat becomes a faithful companion of his.

    In an attempt to fix the mistakes of the past, and make up for where the gods have failed, the residents of both camps have made a point to check in on whatever mortal families are out there missing a child. Not every demigod who died during the many battles is missed by their mortal family, but those that are missed dearly often left their families with no closure and not even so much as a grave to mourn at. Among those on the list of those who need to be visited is one May Castellan, who is permanently waiting for a son who will never come home. A rotating schedule of demigods stops by her home every weekend, bringing small gifts and a mountain of groceries. This system runs rather smoothly and then, one day, Jason Grace invites himself along for a visit.

    Statues aren't supposed to take on a life of their own—or at least that's what Percy was always led to believe.

    Too bad Harry doesn't follow the common sense rule.


    (Or: after Percy sends Medusa packing sans head, he expects their quest to get back on track. But nothing accounts for Harry and his inability to stay out of trouble. Or alternatively, the basilisk is never blinded by Fawkes and during the chase manages to catch Harry's eye. But rather than die as he should have, he's simply plucked from one universe and plopped into another—right in the middle of Aunty Em's Garden Emporium...as a garden ornament.

    Bloody wonderful.)
