Summary
"Now that we have found our ground, I know what we must do," Hornet announces. She draws a shell shard from under her cloak, ties a length of silk around it, and hurls it over the railing. After a couple of firm tugs, she starts climbing. Her wet cloak falls open as she goes, revealing all six of her arms grasping the rope.
Ghost thinks—not for the first time—that their sister is kind of terrifying.
She stops halfway up and beckons Hallow closer. Hallow eyes her warily but steps forward. Hornet brings her face up to theirs, and Hallow has to lean back to avoid bumping masks. Then one of her hands taps them, gently, right between the eyes.
"You're it."
She's up the line before either of them can react. "Run, little prey, run!" she calls, and vanishes over the top.
For a moment, neither of them moves. Then Ghost feels their twin's gaze slowly turn toward them. The void is strangely silent.
Oh no.
