At the Doll Festival, Zanka is pushed by Riyo into a group dance in the square, under the pretense of getting him to engage in something 'fun'.
By the dance's finale, one man has had his fill of entertainment- and Zanka is left with both a gift and a promise.

Summary
Zanka had always had a particularly sensitive sense of smell, even as a child. It was something he was forced to hide as a Nijiku son, as this sensitivity didn't always work in his favour. Strong, heavy smells would linger in his head, making him dizzy and nauseous, until all he could think of was getting away from them, overstimulated and shaking. His family had seen it as a point of weakness, though it often felt to him that every part of himself was a potential weakness growing up.
