Summary
"Marinette, right?” he asks as he reaches the woman, plastering on what he hopes is a convincing smile.
The woman nods, standing from her seat. At her full height, she’s not that tall, but the barely concealed skepticism in her gaze is enough to unnerve him on its own. “So you’re Adrien Agreste. I’ve heard a lot about you over the years. You were pretty popular when I was a kid.”
“Back then, yeah,” Adrien agrees, though he’s sighing internally. Of course, she recognizes him. He doesn’t broadcast his past if he can help it, but that doesn’t account for a lack of public interest. “But that was a long time ago. Now, I’m satisfied with a low profile, you know?”
“I can tell.” The woman's - Marinette's - eyes travel the room. “You’ve really made this place… your own.”
There’s a disappointed edge to her voice, one Adrien isn’t even sure she realizes exists, but he’s willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
“But I guess that can’t be helped. You were a spoiled rich kid.”
Adrien Agreste runs his Café with a finesse that guarantees he's stable enough to stop looking over his shoulder at his past. Then Marinette Dupain-Cheng arrives and ruins it.
