Summary
After the Cullens refuse to let a small group of vampires cause problems in Forks, they catch the attention of the Volturi who are highly interested in adding the more special members of their coven to the Volturi's ranks. Not really in a position to refuse, they agree to a meeting only to discover that werewolves aren't quite as extinct as the Volturi have led everyone to believe.
The last true werewolf is being kept as Caius's pet, a memento of his war against them, and something about it captures Alice's attention completely. No matter how dangerous she's warned they are, how quickly it could turn and kill everyone she loves, Alice is convinced that the sad creature under Caius's heel has still retained its humanity and wouldn't harm her. She just has to decide how far she's willing to go and how much she's willing to risk if she's wrong.

Rumi decided a long time ago that when this moment came, she would meet her death gracefully. Her avenging angels stand over her weapons blazing. She would go quietly. Screaming would upset Zoey and only make Mira angrier.
She's glad it's them. There's no better sight than her hunters taking down the evil that haunts their world. Bad luck that Rumi is that evil.
She knows it’s time and Rumi is determined to spare them the inconvenience of her screams.
