Kaito was a dove.
Somehow.
No, not somehow. It was probably a gem's fault- that's what happens when you're chasing after every shiny rock that had an urban legend around it, he supposed; statistically, at least one of them had to have been actually magic, even if it wasn't the magic shiny rock KID had wanted. And anyway, maybe this was just Akako's way of making sure he didn't die before the four of them got to go see that movie coming out next weekend. She's weird like that.
The point was: Kaito wasn't all that surprised to be a bird.
What was surprising was the fact that Conan and his not-yet-maybe-surely-someday girlfriend were being oddly concerned.
Or: The Scorpion shoots down KID the night the Memories Egg gets stolen, but all that remains for Conan to find is a wounded dove

But regardless, when you’re chained together, arm to leg, screaming bloody murder as you hurtle towards, you guessed it, imminent death! You get to transcend those fickle little boundaries of mere friendship, of simple like and dislike – into pure unadulterated mutual trust. Even if it’s not in his nature, nor in Kaitou Kid’s, Shinichi suspects, life-or-death situations do indeed make strange bedfellows of them all.

.Or, Conan and Kaitou KID hurtle at breakneck speed towards conciliation (and also the ocean) in the world’s longest free fall.
Bonus points for banter, extremely American dialogue (my apologies), and what I can only describe as my unhinged pining for a version of Kuroba Kaito that I’m not entirely sure actually exists.
