Summary
Victoria tells him about Kev dying and he hates that he feels pity. Not pity for Kev – god, no, never – but for Robert. He doesn’t understand it, whatever the fuck was going through Robert’s brain when he was behind bars, but he knows it’s complicated. He knows Robert barely understands it himself.
But they were married, and Robert lost his husband.
Whatever those feelings were, he must be hurting.

Summary
“I’m okay,” Robert says. His eyes are clear, brighter than before. “You made it better. You always do.”
“I know,” Aaron says, punctuating it with a kiss. “That’s what I’m here for.”

Summary
Robert’s been grumpy since he woke up, sniping at Aaron over the toast being too burnt (the toaster is still on the same setting it was yesterday) and his tea tasting funny (the same teabags they buy every time). Well, waking up is pushing it - he knows Robert hasn’t slept well, got the bruises on his shins to prove it.
Which is why he’s going to make this better.

They’re both different now. Not like ten or eight or six years ago.
But this is the same. Robert thinks this might always be the same.

Summary
“We could get married,” he says, hushed. “Again.”
Robert doesn’t speak for a minute, but the moonlight is reflecting from the whites of his eyes as he stares up at the ceiling. Aaron watches, doesn’t hold his breath as he waits.
“The definition of insanity,” Robert says, voice neutral. “Is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”

Summary
Aaron’s sworn there’s nothing going on, hand on heart and hoped to die (with a wince, because that’s a little too close for comfort now), and Mackenzie doesn’t not believe him.
But he’s not entirely sure he believes him fully, either.

Summary
If he were the same man he was six years ago, he’d think it was inevitable. He’d say that the thing they shared was so big, so massive, that it had its own orbit, and they were destined to spin around it, its very own magnetic field drawing them closer together until they collided yet again.
But he’s different now, so he doesn’t even think about it. Not as a possibility, not as an abstract concept.
That’s why it sneaks up on him. Punches him in the gut and leaves him breathless.

Summary
5 times aaron watches robert kiss mackenzie.
Aaron looks up, watches Robert’s hand slide up Mackenzie’s back and squeeze his neck. Mackenzie beams and leans in for a kiss, another one, like they’re not in the pub in front of half the village.
He thinks about that time all those years ago, when he told Robert to walk out there and tell them all.
Well. Looks like he’s finally capable of it.

Summary
“Boys,” Mackenzie greets, three pint glasses secured between his fingers. Robert reaches up and takes one before the idiot manages to drop them all. “You know, I was feeling a little off today, but you two really do turn me on.”

Summary
“Shut up, you’re so loud,” Robert huffs. “You can hear everything downstairs, Caleb’ll kill you.”
“I blame the bloke that built the place,” Aaron says, but his laughter quietens into a wicked smile. He scrunches his nose up when he says, “I heard he was a right cowboy.”
Robert gets another sharp laugh out of Aaron, fingers digging into his ribs, but he settles when Aaron rolls into him and kisses him.

Summary
“You should never have come back, Robert,” he says, low and dangerous. There’s alpha tones threading through his words, but Robert’s always been good at ignoring that. It’s probably why his jaw is still aching, all things considered.
It’s not the first time he’s had a smack for being a bad omega, and it probably won’t be the last.
“I was always going to come back for you, Aaron,” he says, completely and utterly sincere.

5 times aaron stands up for robert, and 1 time robert stands up for aaron.
or,
“What the hell have you done?” Aaron says. He grips the edges of the counter so hard it makes his fingertips ache, but it’s either this or throw another punch at someone he’s been married to at one point or another.
“I was doing you a favour,” John says. His expression is dark, but Aaron just grits his teeth. “Caleb owes me. Owes us! Robert's dangerous!”
“No, he’s just a bloke who’s gotten out of prison and is trying to turn his life around,” Aaron says, frustration bubbling over. “I told ya, he’s nothing to me, and that’s why he’s just a bloke. Your brother –– at a push.”

Summary
He’d almost appreciated it, in a sick kind of way. Robert’s clumsy, earnest attempt at honesty, the personality he’d developed because of Aaron, for Aaron. Because he’d loved him so, so much.
And that, in the end, is the thing that ruined them both.
Funny how things work out, isn’t it?

Summary
a stolen moment after robert is released from prison.
“Can I?” Aaron asks, sweeping his foot over the patch of grass next to Robert’s thigh. He gets a half-hearted shrug in response, and takes that as permission, dropping to the floor and crossing his legs. Their knees are pressed together like this, body heat dimmed by denim yet still burning like a fire. “Haven’t seen you around much lately.”

4 times aaron looks for robert + 1 time robert looks for aaron.
“Hey,” he says, glancing over his shoulder just to make sure no one is listening. “Where is he? Finally got the hint?”He can see the moment her face changes. From casually happy, to something tight and twisted.
“Oh,” she breathes. “You don’t know.”
“Know what?” He asks dumbly. He doesn’t have a clue.
“Rob’s back inside,” she says, like breaking bad news. “He got arrested the day you got married.”

Summary
“You don’t act like an alpha,” Jordan says. He’s not sure where it comes from, but it’s true. The only time he’s ever seen that from Virgil is when he kicked off at that kid. “Why?”
Virgil opens his mouth and then closes it, like he doesn’t know what to say.
“Because that’s not me,” Virgil says, like it’s simple. “I don’t want to.”
Jordan looks at him. Really, properly looks at him, the serious expression on his face and the sincerity in his eyes.
Because I don’t want to.
Because it’s that simple.

Summary
Jordan flips the waffle maker and smiles at his reflection in the kitchen window.
He loves this. It smells like home, but not his home. Not muddy cleats and Jodie’s bubble bath, the scent of his childhood. No, it smells like Virgil’s home - damp grass and earthy river water, cinnamon syrup and sweet floral perfume.
The home that he invited Jordan to, where his entire family opened their arms with a warm welcome.

Summary
Jamie’s in the exact same position Roy left him in a few hours ago, except this time, he’s awake and scrolling on his phone.
He’s naked – because of course he is, Jamie Tartt never fucking wears clothes – and his leg is bent at the hip, the knee, duvet trapped underneath it. He looks delicious, quite honestly, arse on full display for Roy, and it makes his mouth go dry.
“Oi,” he grunts, instead of saying any of those words out loud. Jamie knows, anyway. He throws the gift bag on the bed and watches it bounce off Jamie’s knee. “Got you a present.”

Summary
“I –– I should go,” he manages to choke out, not looking at Phoebe’s glittery bubble bath. “I’ve kept you long enough.”
“What?” Roy asks. He looks confused in a way Jamie’s never seen him before.
“I’m intruding,” Jamie says gently, the same tone that he used to use to explain to his cousins why his dad was passed out snoring in the corner before Christmas dinner had even been served.
“No you’re fucking not,” Roy says instantly, circling his fingers around Jamie’s wrist so hard it hurts. “How can you be fucking intruding? I fucking invited you.”
Jamie’s head swims with all the f-bombs in that sentence. You’d think he’d be used to it by now.
