Johnny, who waited at the edge of breath and bone.
Johnny, who now stood in the shape of a small black cat, watching a boy who was not supposed to still be alive.
He flicks his tail, ears twitching as the boy laughs softly, still unaware.
Johnny has worn kings and beggars, storms and shadows, beasts with teeth far sharper than these. Yet it is this form, this simple creature with soft paws and a quiet purr, that feels the most dangerous right now.
Because it lets him stay.
Lets him linger.
Lets him forget, for just a moment, what he is meant to do.
The boy calls him “little cat.”
Johnny does not correct him.

“Are we really going to play that game where you tell me it was an accident?” Taeyong whimpers, he’s mortified and vulnerable, cheeks glistening from the tears, eyes glassy and fearful.
Johnny just stares at him, breathing heavily as he studies Taeyongs face, his big round eyes quivering, cheeks impossibly red with embarrassment, lithe body defenceless and small under him. It's almost like a bulb goes off in his head because he smiles then, so evilly that it sends shocks down Taeyongs spine. His eyes were devoid of warmth.
