The thing is- it’s about magic.
One doesn’t get assigned their living arrangements for the following seven years based on how cunning or humble or bold they are - maybe that affects what friends they make, what teachers they endear themselves to, but the power woven into that Sorting Hat doesn’t look only at mere surface personality traits. It looks at the magic. More specifically, it looks at what each child thinks about their magic.

Not long after, the front door unlocked and swung open, accompanied by his nephew’s usual shout, “I’m back!” What was decidedly not usual would be the sudden bark that followed his call.

Dear Hermione (Or would you rather I address you as ‘Granger’?)
When I said at dinner last night that my new pen pal loves to learn and gets encyclopedias for Christmas, one of my uncles laughed until he cried, and his daughter said I ought to break out a dictionary in advance... Don’t take it personally, they just know I’d rather be outside flying on my broomstick more than anything else.
I would say I *like* reading more than love it, but I do enjoy a good novel. On really rainy days, my mum and I sit in the library together to share a story or two, at least until my dad shows up to start a tickle fight.
So! Things you can’t learn in books. I admit, my mind is drawing a blank.

She would do what she could to lessen the shock of their son’s alliance with Harry Potter when the time came to inform Lucius. In the meanwhile, Narcissa held back on the temptation to smack him over the head with a newspaper.
