Summary
Buck wants to scream. He wants to scream and cry and beg, but he knows that nothing will change this. This situation he’s finding himself in. How did he get there? Buck doesn’t know. Except he kind of does. He’s been a coward, that’s how.
For almost eight years he’s been in love with his best friend. Granted, he’s only known it’s love love for a few months, but still. He could’ve told him. Maybe it wouldn’t have changed a thing. But maybe it would have.
Maybe Buck wouldn’t be crying in his car right now because Eddie decided to move to El Paso. Maybe Chris would still be in LA. And maybe, just maybe, for once in his life, Buck would’ve been good enough for someone to stay. For Eddie to stay.
or: Eddie wants to move to Texas. Buck is in love with him. They're both very normal about everything.

“I can’t wait to meet him. Theo. I’ve always wanted a little brother.”
For a second, the words don’t register. Then, Eddie blinks, glancing over at his son as he gently corrects, “Well, bud, we aren’t adopting Theo. Buck is.”
He thought he’d made that clear, but maybe some wires had gotten crossed somewhere in his explanation.
Chris only shrugs, though, as he says, “I know. But Buck’s basically like my other dad, right? So, that would make Theo my brother.”
Eddie’s so shocked by the words that just came out of his kid’s mouth that he nearly runs a red light.

Buck steps up to take Theo in when the boy has nowhere else to go, and Eddie and Chris step up to be there for Buck through it all.

Summary
Eddie hears the gunshot before he feels it.
He’s kneeling on achy knees before the pulpit when the chapel door slams open. He only manages to twist his body around to see the visitor when he hears the familiar, earsplitting pop.
It takes another second for him to realize that the bullet is lodged in his stomach, which is when the excruciating pain floods his system.
A shocked, rough gasp leaves his lips before the intruder flees. He lifts a shaky hand to the source of the blistering pain and it comes away wet and red.
Oh, God listened.
OR
Eddie makes a deal with God to stop punishing his family for his mistakes and to punish him instead. Then, Eddie gets shot.
