Elphaba doesn’t fall asleep that night. Her mind won’t let her, thinking about the Galinda and Fiyero of it all. She’s really lost sense of her priorities, stuck on what her place is in this love triangle. She resolves, finally, that she has no place in it at all.
Fiyero makes accepting that very difficult.
Or, Elphaba and Fiyero simultaneously get closer and further apart.
