Rumi hadn’t meant to cause such a scene. She just wasn’t thinking straight.
Celine had told her Zoey and Mira would kill her if they found out what she was, and Rumi had come to the conclusion that she was probably right.
Her plan, as tenuous a description as that word was, was to cut the patterns out. If she could cut out the parts of her that made her dangerous, that made her less than human, that made her so unloveable, maybe she’d stop feeling so fucking guilty every time Mira or Zoey opened up to her.
They loved each other from the start, but it just wasn't that simple.

Summary
Susie cares about Noelle, stupid and weird as that may seem. She barely talks to Noelle, but she cares a lot. Noelle is the only person here who’s been nice to her, seen her as something beyond a simpleton and a bully. She wants Noelle to be happy.
So, since she obviously can't convince Noelle to dump Kris's ass and find literally anyone else, she may as well get Kris to step the fuck up.
Susie has come under the impression that Kris and Noelle are dating.

Summary
Here, in this moment, she doesn’t feel so little anymore. She feels the same feeling she felt when she would spread her arms, wide enough until her muscles stung, over the snowy asphalt with Dess.
The water is blisteringly cold, and she can barely keep moving her legs. Kris’s warm hands, almost searing her fur with their heat, ground her in the present. Kris, covering her upturned palms with their own, is the only one that can guide her.
Noelle feels a bed of leaves at her thighs, stockings clinging to her fur. She sees them scattered across the surface of the water like fallen rubies.
“The water’s nice… isn’t it, Kris?” She murmurs with a smile that doesn’t meet her eyes.

Summary
The pebble Kris had been about to throw slips out of their hand as they give her a strange look. It doesn’t even bounce once.
“...Huh.”
“Don’t huh me, it’s not that weird!!!”
“Noelle you’re talking about how much you want to be fished out by someone, I’m pretty sure it is that weird.”
Noelle and Kris both find themselves near Hometown's lake, and end up talking to each other to pass the time. They are both Very Normal during this conversation.
