The Afton house is quiet today. "Father must be at work," he thinks to himself, slowly getting out of bed. As he walks to the bathroom the hardwood floor feels cold beneath his feet. He walks in and flips on the light, staring at himself in the mirror in a way he'd found himself doing more and more these days. It was all wrong, everything was. The longer he stared, the more he hated what he saw. His hair, greasy and far too long. He locked the bathroom door before turning back to the mirror. He gathered his hair together hand held it behind his head, trying to visualize himself with short hair. Just the illusion made him feel better, but he knew better than to ask father about it.
