    “I'm not sick!” Merlin insisted, trying to force a laugh. The thought of being dismissed made his stomach churn unpleasantly. “I just-” he stopped, viciously biting his own lip to prevent from saying anything else.

    Arthur's eyes zeroed in on Merlin's mouth before lifting again to his eyes. “You just…?” His hand came up, fingers curling around Merlin's chin, thumb gently dragging over the lip trapped between his teeth.

    Merlin wasn't sure if it was the soft tone in Arthur's voice, or the gentle touch on his mouth, but he let out a shaky exhale. “I'm sorry, my lord, I simply wasn't able to sleep last night. I'll be-”

    “One night of no sleep has you walking around so unaware?” Arthur pressed.
