Summary
Mama wasn’t always high.
There were times when she used to smile with her whole face. Times when her eyes would clear and focus on Jason as he read his book aloud, waiting patiently for him as he sounded out each word. She would kiss his forehead before bed and sneak him bites as she cooked. Jason loved his mama when she was smiling because of him.
But then there were times when she wasn’t. Jason got used to recognizing the signs. Her smile would start to slip and her hands would start to tremble. She would respond to him with her soft voice, but her eyes would be darting around the room. Jason used to read just a bit louder, his motions larger and more enthusiastic than his racing heart would be feeling. He just wanted her to be his for a little while longer.
But eventually she would kiss his forehead and stand up. She would walk to the kitchen and pull out the metal box on the top shelf. This is when Jason would know that their time together was over.
Mama loved him, but she loved her pills more.

I am this close,' he lifts his fingers up, and makes sure that Bruce can see they’re pressed flat together, 'To shooting you. Shut the hell up.'"
AKA: After a mission goes wrong, Jason is left bloody, concussed, and pissed. Unfortunately for him, Bruce is just trying to keep Jason alive, which would probably be easier if Jason wasn't ready to strangle him.
