Christmas was the time of the year for hope. It was also the time of a rise in minor crime. Bruce was working hard to try to keep the hope in the cold Gotham streets, both as Batman and Bruce Wayne.
He never expected a charity event as Bruce Wayne to lead him down the quietest halls in a hospital, where the most noise was the shuffle of nurses’ feet and the beeping of hospital machinery.

I couldn't connect with the people of Gotham the way you could. I was in it for the wrong reasons. Vengeance. Anger. But to you, Robin was magic. Robin was a light in the darkness, a helper to all. I didn't bring that to Robin, you did. I don't think of anyone else when I hear that name."
Dick picks up the photo, looking at his little brother and his curls and his toothy smile. "Maybe Tim's right. Maybe Batman does need a Robin, someone to take care of. But Batman failed Robin. Batman failed you, Jay. I'm not sure he deserves another chance."

Summary
Clark Kent has a pretty great thing going for him. He's the backup goalie for the Gotham Blades, the worst team in NHL history, and he's working on his journalism degree. He never has to worry about money and he's got plenty of free time to be Superman.
It's all going really well. Until Bruce Wayne ruins everything.
“When I asked you what you wanted for your birthday, you said you wanted the Blades to,” Bruce used air quotes which shouldn't be endearing, “win an ‘effing’ game for once in your life.”
"What,” Jason barks out a laugh, “you’re gonna bribe a ref or somethin’?”
“Goodness no!” Bruce cries out dramatically clutching his hands to his chest, utterly scandalized. “What do you take me for? A criminal? Of course not, Jason. I would never! I am a good influence.”
Jason continues to glare at him, clearly waiting for something.
“I bought the team,” Bruce announces.
