He pulled his shirt up to check, but saw nothing besides smooth skin. His gem was gone. The one part of him that had never changed had left no trace of ever being there.
And then he sees it, floating in the air, glowing, and reforming.
Not into him, but into her.
Pink Diamond.
Rose Quartz.
His mother.“There you are, Starlight,” White purrs.
Steven’s world shatters.

It's a few more months until they reach Erid when Grace begins to have strange recurring dreams of an island in a sea of blood, with nothing but a single tree standing upon it. As if that wasn't strange enough, a man begins appearing in his dreams, one covered in tree branches and claims to be from Mars.
But Simon is too real to be nothing more than a figment of his imagination, so he must be someone Grace simply hasn't remembered yet! Once he figures out why he's having these strange dreams, he'll be sure to remember Simon properly, right?

Summary
The smell of iron and sweat was what got to him the most. It wasn't just the fact he was buried under gallons and gallons of blood, or the fact that he was welded into a godforsaken metal coffin. No, it was the smell that really bothered him.
It wasn't because it was something different or even disgusting. Simon had gotten used to the smell of sweat and metal while in that prison. What bothered him the most was how familiar it was. Like if he closed his eyes he could be back in that cell, alone and forgotten all over again.
He didn't like to close his eyes.
