    "A-Xian!" he heard a voice call from a distance. It sounded very familiar and triggered a feeling of security in him. The sun tickled his nose and he screwed up his face. He opened his eyes and was still in Lotus Pier, where he had fallen asleep. He was still a child. A young Yanli and a young Jiang Cheng were with him, laughing and chatting. It was now the third day that he experienced like this and everything was continuously taking its course. Slowly it became clear to him... this could not be a memory or a dream. Either he was dead and his life just passed his eyes in real time or he had been transferred back to his child self!
    For the second time in his existence, something had happened to him that he had never expected. Amused, he wondered if he could now call this his second reincarnation.

    Wei Wuxian dies during the siege of the Burial Mounds thinking, at the very least, he’s earned some peace.
    He’s wrong. His soul doesn’t scatter to the void. No, it’s caught, pinned, and informed that this is what happens when you break the rules of the living and the dead in the same lifetime.

    “You stepped beyond mortal bounds,” he’s told. “You created an abomination that should never have existed...”

    And Heaven, apparently, has time to hold a grudge. So, as punishment: he doesn’t get to rest. Not in this afterlife. His soul becomes bound to resentment itself, condemned to rise again wherever the cry for vengeance is strong enough to drag him back. Whoever they are, whatever they’re suffering, whatever they can’t finish – that’s his problem now. Strangers’ faces. Strangers’ lives. Strangers’ revenge plots. He wakes in the middle of all of them, expected to put things right with whatever strength the body has left. And of course he does, because it’s not like saying “no” has ever worked out for him.

    Resentment calls. Wei Wuxian answers.
