Summary
This is Hyakunosuke Ogata's worst nightmare. The half-brother who had stolen his father from him has now joined his Division of the Japanese Imperial Army, in a much higher rank of course. The two have grown up in vastly different households and have never even met before they were already military-aged men. Nonetheless his brother is showing a baffling affection towards him as if they had been inseparable since birth, and it's rubbing Ogata the wrong way.
Now his superior, Lieutenant Tsurumi, is asking him to do anything to convince his brother to drop his position and join their 27th Regiment instead. Torn between jealousy and the desire to appease one of the few men who promised to support him, Ogata sets out to do it. When prostitutes don't prove enough to break his brother's vow of chastity, Ogata uncovers a new piece of information that offers another way to make him unfit for the position of flag bearer.
Ogata becomes obsessed with dragging his perfect brother to hell with him. It isn't like there's any hope that he means any of the loving words he whispers to him whenever they're alone. Nobody could ever love a degenerate like him, who was barely a human being.
