If anything, Chris’s cruelty at least affirmed one thing. Asking had absolutely been a mistake. It confirmed the pull he’d been feeling since he’d first let Chris lay hands on him. It wasn’t safe. Being alone was safer and easier. He didn’t have the framework for whatever it was Chris expected of him- there were far too many guardrails for the fleeting moments of intimacy to be worthwhile.

Perhaps absentmindedly noticing someone’s approach, the man’s eyes glid leisurely across the open space, sliding right over Luo Wenzhou.
It took a moment. About the time it takes for a leaf to drift to the ground. Then it caught. The man’s gaze whipped back to latch onto Luo Wenzhou.

It’s Wen Kexing who escapes her old life, deciding to end her life. Tian Chuang leader Zhou Zishu meets her while tailing a target at a pleasure house. Wen Kexing lets the man take her to the bedroom. Zhou Zishu follows them, bursting into the room when she hears a muffled scream and a thud against the floor. She finds the man dead and bleeding out by the foot of the bed, Wen Kexing holding a bloodied white jade hair pain in her hand and staring straight at Zhou Zishu’s eyes.
“I killed your pray for you, will you kill me?” she says, tone flat without breaking their locked gazes.
Zhou Zishu takes her back to her personal residence, instead.
