Furina has kissed and been kissed many times before. But that has been onstage, for an audience, for the grandeur of it. There is nothing sweet, nothing gentle or kind here. Only wear-worn desperation, violence, callous need. Brutal, miserable, all teeth.
“To know you,” Neuvillette begins when he attempts to separate them, as though that is something Furina will allow at this point. Their grave is dug and now they must lie in it. She is only fulfilling promises already made.
Furina says, cold as the wicked freeze of a pond in winter, colder, “Here is the truth, Neuvillette. I need you. I do. There! You have it direct from me, not sweetly implied or hidden to be wheedled out by the smooth hand of analysis and hindsight, but grossly put in front of you, your dinner. You may thank me for it when I am done speaking.”
