Summary
Aventurine’s chest hurts. He can feel something thick and wet dripping down his front, but when he looks down there’s nothing there.
Is this real? This can’t be real. Ratio’s expression is achingly sincere, a look that he’s never seen before. Surely the professor wouldn’t be caught directing such feelings at Aventurine of all people.
And yet, the man leans over the desk to gently brace his palms against the sides of Aventurine’s face. Aventurine realizes that he can’t feel the chair underneath him, or the scratch of fur trim against his neck, or the wood grain under his fingers—Ratio’s warm touch is the only thing that feels real.
“There are people waiting for you, Aventurine. I don’t know if that thought brings you comfort, but it is the truth.”
Aventurine is having a confusing time at the Horizon of Existence.

“My, what kind words!”
It’s almost comical how quickly everyone’s heads snap towards the other end of the courtyard. Sure enough, a figure in a long coat draws near and removes their cap and sunglasses. Robin smiles widely as she’s immediately swarmed by children, tucking her light disguise into a heavy-looking briefcase. She greets each child by name, thanks them for attending, and offers a quick hug or handshake to the more clingy individuals.
Micah meets her eyes. He takes note of the unusually uneven makeup struggling to cover the bags under her eyes and the pair of dress pants peeking out from under her long overcoat, a marked departure from her usual dresses.
“I sincerely apologize for being late,” Robin says, quickly breaking eye contact. “I was…delayed, at work.”
Robin has been hosting weekly singing lessons at Dreamflux Reef for quite a while, and the children adore her. Micah can't complain about the way it keeps everyone occupied and enthusiastic, but he's a little concerned when Robin arrives late one day, looking like she's carrying several tons of weight on her shoulders. The least he can offer is a listening ear.

When it comes to parenting, Jeralt has no idea what he’s doing.Well, maybe that’s a lie. Byleth is still alive, at the very least. She eats, she sleeps, and she spends her days wandering around and causing trouble in whatever temporary camp they’ve made that day. She’s fairly independent and insists on walking on her own when they travel. She’s deceptively strong for her size, too, and she hasn’t even grown past his hip yet. The other day she managed to gather a pile of firewood twice her height and at least five times her weight. Jeralt was and still is extremely impressed.
But there are other times where he doesn’t have the faintest clue how he’s supposed to handle this wide-eyed, silent child of his. Times such as right now, at the foot of a wide oak standing a short distance away from their campsite, staring at his only living flesh and blood sitting a good thirty feet off of the ground.
Jeralt falls out of a tree.
