Summary
Overblot is the worst possible thing a mage can experience.
It was something that had been hammered into Cater’s head as a mage himself. Many didn’t survive. In fact, Cater had never heard of any mage that survived. Many died before they could be saved, a faceless monster sucking the magic and lifeforce out before the overblot could be reversed. If such a thing is even possible.
It was one thing to hear about an overblot. The horrific damage it did to the body, whether the mage be human, beastfolk, fae, or mer. It didn’t matter.
It was a completely different thing to see it in person. Especially when it involved a person he knew.
Or: Overblots have severe and life-altering physical consequences. Riddle is the first victim of such consequences.
