Summary
A canon divergent AU set after the events of Queen of Attolia. After an Attolian soldier is captured in Mede and brought to his master's estate, Kamet knows better than to get involved. He immediately gets involved anyway.
The Attolian was chained securely to the wall by his ankle, but he’d somehow managed to wrestle the handcuffs away from his guard and now he had them clenched in his hands, as though he intended to use them as a weapon. Gods above.
Kamet shook his head at him, careful to stay well out of reach. “You’re scaring the doctor,” he said, in Attolian. “Must we do everything with a knife at your throat?”

Summary
“I am going to look a fool if you say you don’t want me along with you, Kamet,” he said with a self-deprecating smile.
I looked up at him in silence for a long moment. I thought about the pride Costis took in doing his duty, protecting his king and country, and the conflicting opinions of the two guards outside my door. About how much he might be sacrificing in leaving with me, and how little he could hope to gain in return. I thought about every nasty and uncharitable thought that had ever crossed my mind, every lie I had told him, beginning at the docks of Ianna-Ir. Then I opened my mouth and told the worst lie of all.
“I don’t want you along with me.”

Summary
The first thing you should know about time loops is that they’re really fucking hard to break. The second thing is that you can never break one in such a way that it is incapable of returning.
The third thing you should know is that everyone around you has probably been stuck in a time loop at one point or another, and they made it out alive. This is only comforting if you’re a numbers guy, or if you’re the kind of guy who talks to others about how it feels to live the same day over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Shame if you’re not; the most important thing you should know about breaking a time loop is that it helps to tell someone you’re trapped in one in the first place.

Summary
Andy slid into the car, maintaining eye contact with Miranda the whole time. She couldn’t look away. Her gaze was drawn to Miranda’s. It felt as though Andy’s entire body was drawn to her. A string was pulled taut between them and seemed to be shortening with every moment they stayed locked on each other. Andy found herself slowly leaning towards the editor. Only then did Miranda slowly close the door. Andy took the brief reprieve to let out a shaky breath. Holy hell.
