Summary
“The zaunites are afraid.” Heimerdinger cuts, looking straight into Jayce’s eyes. “And I will be the first to admit that we’ve done a rather poor job of showing them motives not to be. I think it is time we give them a real token of our sincerity.”
“By marrying me off?” He can’t help but snap, because the situation feels incredibly surreal. “Excuse me, professor, but I hardly believe that someone from a lesser piltovian house tying the knot with a random zaunite will give the people much rest.”
“You are The Man of Progress, Jayce. House Talis is long past being considered a lesser house. You’re a man of science and a man of the people, Piltover is proud to have you as the face of our ascension. Your reputation follows you wherever you may go.” The seriousness in Heimerdinger’s voice makes him bite back a heated response. “And you wouldn’t be marrying a random zaunite, you’d be marrying Silco’s son. Who it might serve well to remind you is also head of Zaun’s own council.”
Jayce’s stomach drops.
