Chapter Text
I ran through the fields, long blades of grass hitting gently against my legs. With the night blocking out my vision, I could easily hear the quick steps of the Yiga foot soldiers behind me. No way was I going to allow myself to get caught. I won't go back to that hideout in the desert. I'd finally managed to escape and I was not about to be dragged back.
It has been a couple days since my escape. In that short amount of time I had been trying to find a suitable place to hide out for the rest of my life. Of course, Castle Town was off limits. I don't exactly look like a normal race in Hyrule, the horns kind of give that away. Not to mention my tail. Maybe the Yiga had thought about that, too, when they created me and my 'siblings.' If we have nowhere to run to, why would we run at all?
It's not stopping me, of course. Life with the Yiga was hell, at least for me. They'd train us with their cruel methods. If you were weak, you were prey, and I wasn't exactly so strong. The amount of scars, cuts, and bruises I'd received are too many to count. Some weren't even from training either. I wasn't too popular amongst my siblings. They liked to show their distaste.
I was never very good at reading maps but I should be somewhere in Lanayru by now. Finally, after what felt like an eternity of running, a large body of water offered me an escape. If I wasn't running for my life, I'd think it was beautiful. A clear lake reflected the night sky, stars and all, while being surrounded by a softly glowing ring of blue. It was too perfectly carved to be luminous stone, but the rock was definitely present.
Something we learned in training was how bad the Yiga outfits were in water. The usually comfortable and elastic material would become skin tight and uncomfortable, typically rendering some soldiers to be too uncomfortable to do anything at all. I was wearing a tunic and leggings, meaning I had no such restrictions. So, taking advantage of the situation, I dived under the water.
I let myself sink below the surface for a while before glancing up. I watched the two foot soldiers cuss at each other, yelling for a moment before teleporting away, hopefully back to the hideout. I waited longer, till my lungs burned, before breaching for a gasp of air.
Quiet.
Good.
I pulled myself out of the lake, shivering as the cold night air met my already freezing body. Oh well, better than what the Yiga must've had in store for me.
Now that the danger was gone, and the adrenaline was leaving my system, I had a sudden sense of fatigue. I wanted-- no, needed-- to find a place to rest or I'd risk passing out in the open. So, I made my way to a waterfall and passed beneath it. Luckily for me, there was a small gap that led to a miniature cave.I sighed, feeling a little bit better at the fact of being hidden, and curled up in the corner, succumbing to sleep
