i don't want you like a friend

Summary:

"Come on. This isn't the first time you kissed him. And I have no idea how you two keep playing it off as just a bro thing and not a 'you two want to fuck each other' thing."

"Nobara!" She laughed.

"I'm just saying. How many more times do you have to kiss him before admitting it means something?"

OR

5 times Megumi and Yuuji kissed and the 1 time they talked about it

Notes:

to no ones surprise I'm still obsessed with my emo boy and a pink haired boy.

Work Text:

1.

The first time that he kissed Yuuji was outside their rooms at 10pm when they were fifteen.

Megumi had spent the last hour tossing and turning in his bed, too hot and too uncomfortable to fall asleep. His body was on edge for no reason, and after realizing he wasn't going to get sleep he stood up, grabbed a hoodie and opened the screen door to go out.

There was a cool breeze that felt refreshing as he stepped outside. Megumi rubbed his eyes and laid down. It wasn't often that the sky was clear, but right now he was able to look at a sky full of stars. He laid there in silence for a bit, listening to the quiet rustling of the leaves and grass. He was beginning to doze off when he heard a faint sound to his right.

"Hey." He turned his head and saw Yuuji coming out of his room. He was wearing back sweatpants and a white t shirt.

Yuuji sat down next to him, and Megumi noticed the bags under his eyes, same tired look reflected in his face. He didn't say anything, only sat down and enjoyed the quiet. After a bit, Yuuji also laid down next to him. Their arms were brushing.

"Were you popular in middle school?"

Megumi shrugged. He was used to Yuuji making conversation even in the most silent evenings. But even then, he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at him.

"You think?"

"You seem pretty badass! Maybe you had a whole fan club."

Megumi rolled his eyes.

"I did not."

"What about dating?"

"At 13?" This time Yuuji chuckled and turned to look at him.

"I got married in kindergarten!"

"Of course you would." Yuuji laughed then and Megumi let himself smile.

"So no first kiss either?" He turned his head to look at him, the night covering the way his cheeks were blushing. Yuuji was looking at the stars.

"I- no. No kiss."

"Me neither," he turned to look at Megumi then, eyes sparkling. There was nostalgia in Yuuji's voice and Megumi remembered how this wasn't normal for him. Missing milestones in their life just to be a sorcerer.

"Do you think it's awkward?" Megumi hid a smile at the conversation.

"I hope not. Besides, if you do it with someone you like, it probably..." He tried to find the words but Yuuji beat him to it.

"Won't matter. You are right." Yuuji then stood up, a new spark in his eyes. He smiled and Megumi could feel his hands start to sweat. Megumi immediately knew what the other boy was thinking.

"You can't kiss me." Yuuji gasped, cheeks blushing a pretty red.

"I- why not!" Megumi rolled his eyes.

"This way even if it's really bad then we got it out of the way." He made a fair point but Megumi was sure that it was only because he was tired that he found any logic in Yuuji's plan.

"So what do you say?" Megumi sat up and considered his options. Is not like the idea of kissing Yuuji was disgusting, but it wasn't something he actively ever thought about. Still, it would be nice to kiss someone. And Yuuji was one of his closest friends so that already placed him on top of the list. With a sigh, he nodded.

"Alright."

Yuuji took a deep breath and closed his eyes, and Megumi leaned closer until their noses brushed. Suddenly, he was nervous and unsure and what if Itadori was right and he messed it up? He placed his lips on top of his for a second, then moved away.

Yuuji opened his eyes.

"That's it?" Megumi blushed, rubbing the back of his neck

"What else do you want?" Yuuji grabbed Megumi's cheeks and then pulled him in. This time when their lips connected it was more than just a peck. They began to move and Megumi realized that kissing Itadori was easy and nice. His lips were soft and tasted vaguely like the chai tea he had earlier. He liked it more than he should have and he began panicking at the thought.

This time when Itadori pulled away, both of them were breathless, eyes dazed.

"That was better," Megumi hummed. Itadori nodded, and Megumi felt something in his heart ache as he looked at the boy and wanted to kiss him again. This was not supposed to happen. He cleared his throat.

"Now we know what kissing is about." Both of them chuckled and Megumi stood up, heading towards his room.

"Good night Yuuji."

As he stepped inside, he heard the faint sound of Yuuji wishing him good night too.

2.

He didn't kiss him again until years later. It was Maki's 21st birthday and she forced everyone (or well invited everyone and forced Megumi) to go out to celebrate. They were at a house party, Maki knew someone who was friends with someone who knew the host and Megumi was both impressed and annoyed they were welcomed into a strangers house.

Despite his annoyance, his friends were having a good time. He had an empty cup in his hand, leaning against the kitchen counter. Nobara was in front of him laughing and Toge was sipping his drink, silently listening to Nobara's story.

"Alright Fushiguro, your turn." Megumi raised an eyebrow.

"Turn to what?"

"Share something stupid or do something stupid." Since Gojo shared the game Truth or Dare with them, Nobara had taken every chance to play it and consequently embarrass them.

"Second one." Toge and Nobara shared a look and Megumi felt his stomach drop when Nobara smirked.

"Kiss the next person who walks through the door." There was only one entrance to the kitchen and Megumi already began dreading it. He began to think of ways to apologize to the stranger he would have to kiss but was promptly interrupted by a loud voice. It was unmistakably Yuuj, his heart skipped a beat.

"There you guys are!" He was wearing shorts and a yellow t-shirt, cheeks flushed from the drinks he'd been having all night and sweat on his forehead from the karaoke that started two hours ago. Toge pushed Megumi with his foot and with a deep breath Megumi walked forward until he was right in front of Yuuji.

"Hey Fushi-"

Megumi's hand cupped his cheeks and then he leaned forward. Unlike the first time they kissed, this time Megumi knew what to do. Megumi felt Yuuji kiss him back and that was his only cue before Yuuji opened his mouth and his tongue was met halfway, the taste of cheap beer and chocolate making him unable to think of anything else but the boy in front of him. His hand gripped in side of Yuuji's hips and he swore he felt the other boy moan in his mouth.

"It was just a kiss! Not sticking your tongue down his throat I'm so sorry Itadori!" Nobara yelled from behind them. Megumi let go and took a step back. He cleared his throat and prayed that he wasn't blushing. Yuuji was staring at him like he wasn't sure what just happened. Which to be fair, he didn't.

"Sorry about that." Yuuji shook his head and then let out an awkward chuckle.

"No worries. It was a game... Right?" There was something unreadable in his eyes. Still, Megumi nodded and Yuuji accepted that, jumping so he was sitting on the counter and beginning to chat with Nobara. Completely moving on from Megumi, like the kiss never happened. It wasn't until Toge handed him a new drink that Megumi realized he had been staring.

3.

The third time he didn't start it, though it was hard to use that as an excuse.

He was holding shopping bags, which always happened when Nobara took them shopping despite Megumi always insisting he won't carry her bags. Nobara was getting them drinks and Yuuji was somewhere getting them snacks, which if he knew Yuuji it was probably just going to be armfuls of candy.

He was people watching when Yuuji suddenly ran up to him, one bag on his hands filled with candy and a new volume of the manga he read sticking out.

"Please follow along." He didn't even have time to say something because the next thing he knew was that Yuuji was kissing him. One hand in the back of his neck, fingers treading through his hair. Megumi didn't think too hard on why it felt so natural to kiss him.

Yuuji pulled away, but he linked their hands together.

"Laugh like I said something funny," he whispered. Megumi rolled his eyes.

"Or you could say something funny." Yuuji poked his side.

"Jerk!"

Yuuji looked at the corner of his eye and sighed, leaning his head against Megumi's shoulder. Megumi could spot a girl who was now walking away, arms crossed and a frown on her face.

"This girl won't leave me alone. She works at the bookstore where my manga is so-"

"Had to make sure she knew you weren't single." Yuuji laughed.

"Exactly. No one likes a jealous boyfriend." Megumi felt his heart flip at being called boyfriend. Yuuji's boyfriend. Nobara came back before Megumi could think about why it felt like being his boyfriend was something he wanted.

Nobara handed them their drink and linked her arms between them, dragging them to another store while ranting about the new sushi place that just opened. Megumi looked at Yuuji, who was already looking at him with an amused smile.

His heart stopped and he felt his mouth run dry. He thought maybe it was just because Yuuji was a good kisser, the reason why Megumi kept on wanting to kiss him and why everytime they kissed it was never enough. But looking at Yuuji's smile and the way his eyes sparked and hearing his laughter Megumi realized he was fucked.

Because he had fallen in love with Yuuji Itadori without knowing. Gojo would be laughing his ass off if he knew.

4.

The fourth time was both of their faults. They were with the third years, watching movies and playing video games and getting drunk because Yuuji was extremely bad at beer pong.

"Why did I choose you as my partner again?" Megumi asked as he finished his drink and Yuuji once again failed to get the ball in the cup. Yuuji threw his arms around him and smiled.

"Because you love me!" Megumi rolled his eyes and took another gulp, trying to hide his blush under the red of the plastic cup. It was unfair that every time Yuuji touched him felt like a spark of electricity. And the way a simple smile would make Megumi blush and stammer and lose any coherent thoughts. Yuuji was going to kill him.

An hour later, Toge was beating everyone in Smash Bros and it became a tournament on who could beat him. Megumi ended up in the hallway, the noise becoming a bit too much for him. Yuuji followed him and both of them were smiling at nothing, Yuuji talking in whispers next to him about other video games he was good at and whatnot. Their shoulders were brushing, both of them too close even though they had the whole space to themselves. To be fair, Megumi was paying less attention to the words and more on the boy's lips. He realized he was staring when Yuuji stopped talking.

"Have you kissed someone else?" Yuuji's hand came up and pushed the strand of hair that was covering his face. Megumi burned under his touch. Yuuji was staring at him and he didn't miss the way the other boy's glaze flickered to his lips.

"Besides you?"

Yuuji nodded and Megumi chuckled before brushing his nose against Yuuji's.

"Have you?" And Yuuji only took a second before he planted his lips on his and then they were both making out, Megumi pressed against the wall as Yuuji bit his lip and played with his hair. This was addicting. And stupid. So stupid because he was drunk and when the morning came Megumi knew he was going to wake up with an ache in his heart for kissing the boy he loved and not being able to do it again.

"For fucks sake- Fushiguro!" Nobara had to physically pull Yuuji off him.

He was going to thank Nobara in the morning. But at the moment he frowned and watched as Yuuji bit his lip and reached out to kiss him again only for Nobara to send him a glare and drag both of them away.

Next morning he woke up in Nobara's floor, head throbbing. There was a pink blanket thrown over him and a small pillow. He was about to ask for water when Nobara's voice rung out.

"Water is on the nightstand. And a pill for your headache." She was standing in front of a mirror, brushing her hair. She was wearing her PJs. Megumi took the pill and the water, slowly regaining his memory and ability to speak.

"Why am I on your floor?" Nobara rolled her eyes and turned around. Pointing her hairbrush accusingly at him.

"We both got Yuuji in his room. But you kept on following me and by the time you passed out you were far too heavy so you better thank me for getting you in my room and not leaving you outside."

"Thank you."

"So are we going to talk about your tendency to kiss Yuuji?" He almost choked on his water.

"What?"

Nobara sat in front of him, frowning.

"Come on. This isn't the first time you kissed him. And I have no idea how you two keep playing it off as just a bro thing and not a 'you two want to fuck each other' thing."

"Nobara!" She laughed.

"I'm just saying. How many more times do you have to kiss him before admitting it means something?"

She stood up and grabbed her uniform, heading to the bathroom. She came out fully dressed and then threw a spare t-shirt to him.

"Let's go. We have to take care of our dumbass."

Taking care of him meant making breakfast and making sure he was alive. When Yuuji woke up and headed towards the kitchen, Megumi had a pill and glass of water ready for him. Nobara had finished making breakfast and all of them sat silently eating it.

"Guys I think I did something stupid." Nobara raised an eyebrow.

"I kissed someone." Megumi and Nobara shared a look. Yuuji just kept staring at his plate.

"But I can't remember who and what if now it's going to be awkward when I see them and-"

In a silent agreement, Nobara and Megumi only continued eating.

"I'm sure it's fine."

"They probably don't remember either," Megumi added. Yuuji smiled at them, the panicked look on his face disappearing. It became a promise between Nobara and Megumi then, to not ever talk about that kiss and let Yuuji know.

5.

If Megumi were to rank his stupid ideas made in this lifetime, the fifth kiss definitely takes the number one spot.

Nobara was sitting on his bed in front of him, one of his hands on her lap.

"There, that one is dry. Now pass me your left hand." Megumi sighed and handed her his left. He looked at the nails on his right hand, Nobara had insisted that he let her paint them. Of course she chose black, as if Gojo didn't tease his emo look enough.

"So what's the plan with Itadori?" Megumi shrugged.

"There's no plan."

"Unbelievable. At this rate you might as well be his fuck buddy-"

"Nobara!"

"Who needs a fuck buddy?" Both Nobara and Megumi turned to see Yuuji standing in the doorway. Megumi took back his hand and started to blow at it so it would dry.

"What are you doing here?" Nobara asked, shooting a smirk towards Megumi. Not that Yuuji noticed.

"Maki was searching for you!" Nobara immediately stood up and put the nail polish away.

"Oi what about my other hand!" Nobara stuck out her tongue and headed towards the door.

"Ask Yuuji!" She then ran out and Megumi sighed. Yuuji sat down where Nobara was.

"Unfortunately I suck at painting nails." Megumi scoffed. He remembered the last time Yuuji tried to and how he painted everything but the nail.

"No kidding."

"So you were looking for a friend with benefits?" Megumi looked at Yuuji and rolled his eyes, scooting further into the bed so his back was against the wall. Yuuji followed.

"Nobara doesn't know what she's talking about. Besides, I hardly think making out with me is a benefit." Yuuji gasped, as if offended on his behalf.

"I think it's a great benefit!" Megumi smiled and then shot a look towards him.

"Right. That's because anyone would love to make out with you." Yuuji felt his lips curve upwards, and Megumi suddenly found it hard to breathe as the boy leaned into his space.

"Oh really Megumi?"

Megumi swallowed and found Yuuji's eyes.

"Yes." Yuuji was looking intensely at him and Megumi prayed that he wasn't reading this wrong. This time there was no dare or drink to blame this on.

"Yes?" Megumi nodded and before he could clarify what exactly he had sort of agreed to, Yuuji was already planting a kiss in his lips.

It wasn't supposed to feel as new and exhilarating as it did, after all, he had already felt his lips before. But kissing Yuuji made fireworks go off inside him.

Somehow Megumi ended up laying on his back, Yuuji on top of him and Megumi could hear Nobara's voice screaming at him to get his shit together. But he soon forgot about that as he felt his skin burn at his touch, one of his hands finding their way under his shirt and tracing circles on his hip.

Yuuji had moved to planting kisses all along his jaw and neck, and Megumi wondered whether this is what it felt like to find a new religion, to worship a man who could destroy him with kisses. Megumi reached towards Yuuji and flipped him over, lips desperately kissing whatever he could reach. There was a certain spot on his neck that would make him gasp, and whenever he would tug at his hair and bite his lip there was a soft moan that made his pants feel tighter.

He kept on kissing and groping and tugging, trying to touch him everywhere and finding everything he liked.

"Fuck Megumi-"

He widened his eyes at the sound of his voice, and looked at Yuuji, whose hair was disheveled and eyes closed. His lips looked a perfect shade of red from being kissed and there was a fading mark from where Megumi had kissed him in his collarbone. He looked perfect. Megumi pulled away, suddenly panicking because this wasn't real and Yuuji didn't know that he felt this way. Didn't know that this meant more to him and it wasn't fair.

"Sorry, I-" Yuuji opened his eyes and sat up, Megumi pulling himself off from his lap, trying to calm himself and pretend that his heart wasn't begging him to go back to what they were doing.

"You okay?"

"Forgot Gojo needed to see me." Megumi ran off and left Yuuji confused in his room.

+1

Megumi was going to have to come up with a plan to fake his death and have Gojo make up a fake identity for him in another country far away from here so he would never have to face Yuuji again. After letting enough hours pass to make sure that Yuuji was out of his room, he snuck back in and hid himself there.

How the fuck was he going to handle this? Besides the big problem of falling in love with him, there was no good excuse on why he walked out right in the middle of whatever that was.

He opened his screen door and stepped outside. It was warm, and there weren't a lot of noises. Once in a while there were chirping sounds but nothing that Megumi could focus on enough to keep his brain from overthinking. It was ridiculous to feel like his heart was broken when he hadn't done anything.

As he sat down, he buried his face in his hands. Maybe if he stayed like this long enough, he would forget about Yuuji and everything that came with him.

"Hey." Megumi widened his eyes and looked to the side. Once again, Yuuji was there. Loose sweatpants and a soft grey shirt. It'd be too rude for him to just run back to his room. He settled for a wave. Yuuji sat down next to him and Megumi tried to ignore how pretty he looked. Even in his most relaxed state, the moonlight seemed to understand where to hit the boy in order to make him look the most flattering.

"I'm sorry about earlier." Megumi cleared his throat and fixed his gaze on the ground.

"You don't need to." Yuuji shot him a look and smiled. There was a hint of sadness in his smile.

"You never willingly go visit Gojo. I clearly did something wrong." He had a point there. Megumi sighed.

"It's not you."

"Oh."

"Actually no, it is you." Yuuji raised his eyebrows, mouth about to open but Megumi turned his body so he was facing him and placed a finger on his mouth so he couldn't say anything. He took a deep breath.

"I like you. I think I realized it somewhere between our first kiss and yesterday and now..." He looked away, hoping that his confession wouldn't ruin their friendship. There was no sign that he was, but Yuuji's face was impossible to read. In an almost pleading tone, he finished "I want to still be your friend."

Yuuji stared at him, his hands calmly playing with the grass on the ground.

"That's it?" Megumi gaped at him, running through a mental checklist to make sure he wasn't missing anything. He was unsure what he expected from Yuuji but it certainly wasn't this.

"Screw being friends, I like you too." Megumi widened his eyes. He then felt Yuuji's finger reach out to his hand, cautiously linking their hands together and letting out a soft smile once they held hands. Like this was the most intimate gesture Megumi could offer. He leaned forward and kissed him. This time it was soft and slow, like they finally had all the time in the world and no excuses to hide behind besides enjoying each other. Megumi immediately kissed him back, smiling into the kiss. Yuuji pulled apart, grinning from cheek to cheek. Cheeks flushed.

"I've been dying to kiss you for real." Megumi kissed Yuuji's knuckles, making the boy scoot closer until their sides were pressed against each other and Yuuji leaned his head on his shoulder.

"Me too."
