Work Header

just like heaven

Summary:

“The project was to use a medium of our choice to represent a person in our lives that doesn’t see themselves the way that we do. You were the first person to come to mind.”

Or... Becky asks for Clary's help with an art project but there's definitely more to it than that.

Notes:

Created for the Femslash February 2022: Presented by the Malec Discord Server. Prompt: Witchlight/Polaroid

I took liberties with this one but this fic's canon is that the light used was a witchlight...

Work Text:

Becky was nervous to show Clary the final product. She was surprised at first, that Clary even agreed to help her out with such a mundane task but there was no artistic mind that Becky respected more than hers. She had always been inspired by Clary; her art, her personality, her smile, her eyes, her… well, everything.

Even after her life changed and Simon followed along with her, Becky made sure that Clary always knew she was there. Clary would always have her because Becky was pretty sure she wouldn’t be able to live without Clary.

“Becks, you in here?” Clary called. Becky jumped–she didn’t even hear Clary come in. “Sorry, I’m practicing my runes. Soundless,” she explained.

“You got a mind reading one, too?” Becky teased. She opened her arms and welcomed Clary into a familiar hug. She smelled just as she always had, but with a hint of something a little sweeter.

“No, I just know you and that adorable eyebrow furrow,” Clary responded, running her index finger down the bridge of Becky’s nose.

She felt her cheeks burn in embarrassment at the attention even though she wasn’t sure that her blush could darken more. Clary didn’t seem to notice as she sat down beside her, hands laced in her lap, eyes peering at the empty computer screen.

“So,” Clary began impatiently, “are you gonna show it to me?”

“Show you what?” Becky pretended, earning a smack on her arm from Clary. Immediately, Clary wrapped herself around Becky’s arm, holding on so tight that Becky wished she would never let go. “Okay, okay.”

Becky opened up the image, waiting with bated breath as Clary’s eyes widened and her nails dug into Becky’s skin. She hoped that was a good sign because honestly, she would quite possibly die on the spot if Clary hated the photo.

“You–” Clary shook her head, a grin tugging at the corners of her lips as she leaned even closer to the screen. “I look like an angel.”

“You are an angel,” Becky said immediately. “The project was to use a medium of our choice to represent a person in our lives that doesn’t see themselves the way that we do. You were the first person to come to mind.”

“I was?” Becky nodded. “But… why?”

Becky couldn’t believe that Clary was even asking the question, but her face was as serious as Becky had ever seen it. Before she could actually think about her words, they just started pouring out.

“Clary, you– You are incredible . When I found out you had actual angel blood running through your veins, I couldn’t even be surprised. You’ve always been the kindest, most selfless, beautiful person in my life–in all of our lives. You are the center of attention in any room and I know you try to pass by unnoticed but it’s impossible not to notice you, Clary. There’s so much light and joy and love inside of you that you so freely give to everyone who deserves it, and even those who don’t. You are exactly what I imagine an angel to be.”

There was more Becky had to say but none of it mattered–not when Clary kissed her and it felt like heaven.
