“With the Seelie Queen’s unfortunate passing, the realm had to send someone in her place. Fae politics are a lot more contrite than ours if you can believe it, so in the meantime, Meliron has stepped into her role. That’s not going to be a problem, is it?” Alec asked, knowing full well that it was at least a little bit of a problem.
Izzy hadn’t seen Meliorn since their Edom rescue to save Magnus and she couldn’t say it was with regret. She realized, after seeing Meliorn risk everything to save her brother-in-law, that the torch she had held for so long was not as extinguished as she thought it had been.

Maia’s seen a lot of crime shows—at least that’s what she’d tell the police—which is why she doesn’t go to check for a pulse; contaminating the evidence and all. Instead, she nudges the girl’s back with her toe gently. When the figure doesn’t move, Maia puts a little more force into it, which is apparently just enough to rouse the unconscious body.
“What the hell?” the girl mutters, her hand immediately pressing against the wound on the back of her head. Maia says nothing as the girl pushes her hair out of her face and turns to glance up at where Maia is hovering over her. “Great,” she says and Maia lets out a snort of laughter to mask her relief.
“Agent Lightwood? What the fuck happened to you?” Maia asks when she finally recognizes the form.
