It’s Gonna Be Okay

Summary:

Anne is under a lot of pressure from like, fighting a war, one of her besties being possessed and other such things. You know- the usual.

Notes:

So I got the idea for this at around 1:30 in the morning when I saw a sashanne animatic. I then proceeded to write it and finish a little after 2:30 in the morning. Also it’s just really fucking short so uh, sorry-

Bon appetite I guess

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

*FLASHBACK*

It was cold in Wartwood, in her nearly empty room. Anne was still getting used to the rebellion, but luckily Sasha had been helping her adjust. One of the many ways she had done so was holding Anne close at night. She didn’t want to be alone, not with everything the way it was. Not with the world seemingly holding on for dear life. Not with Marcy gone. It was too much.

“Hey Anne, you awake?”

She was snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of Sasha’s voice.

“Huh? Oh- yeah I’m fine.”

Sasha gave her a blank look. “That’s not what I asked, so I feel like you’re probably not.”

“It’s not important-“

She got cut off, “Anne, if it’s bothering you it’s important. Now what’s wrong? I’m not sure how much I can help, but…”

“Do you ever think about, I dunno, just- everything I guess? Like the rebellion and everything else. I mean we’re just kids Sash, and I don’t know how much more I can handle. I mean teens are supposed go to parties and do dumb stuff with their friends, but here we are fighting a war.”

“Oh.”

“Not to mention…”

“Marcy,” Sasha finished sadly.

“You’ve been thinking about her too huh?”

“I try not to.”

“Yeah.”

Anne hugged Sasha tighter, as if clinging onto her looking for any sort of comfort. She buried her face in Sasha's chest and clung on tighter as she began to tremble softly. It wasn’t long until Sasha heard choked sobs escape Anne’s body.

“Oh Anne…”

“It’s- it’s too much Sasha. It’s all too much.”

Sasha pushed Anne away enough to look at her face, and her heart shattered at the sight. She was just so tired and broken.

“Hey, hey, look at me,” Sasha said as she cupped Anne’s cheek, turning her face towards her own. “It’s gonna be okay, alright?”

“But-”

“No buts, we’re gonna get through this together okay? We’re gonna beat Andrias and get Marcy back.”

“But what if he gets you too?! I can’t lose you Sasha, not after everything else I-”

Sasha cut her off again, “You won’t, I promise,” she said, trying to give a reassuring smile.

Anne stared at her a moment as Sasha used her thumb to wipe away her tears. Anne slowly gave into the touch and cuddled up against Sasha this time.

“It’s gonna be okay Anne. I promise everything is gonna be okay,” Sasha whispered as Anne drifted into sleep.

*END FLASHBACK*

As they stood in the hallway, Anne stared at the paper in her hands. Who am I ,  it read. What if I never find out , she thought. We could lose. Andrias could win.

Sasha heard the sound of muffled crying coming from behind her. Her eyes widened as she looked at Anne hugging herself with one arm, and one hand over her mouth trying to quiet soft whimpers.

“Anne?” She asked tentatively.

Anne stiffened and breathed a sharp gasp, before slowly sinking to the floor. She tucked her head between her knees and continued crying.

“Anne…”

“Sasha,” she rasped, “please tell me it’ll be ok.”

Sasha placed a hand on her shoulder to pull Anne into a hug. Anne threw herself into Sasha’s arms, crying into her shoulder.

“Even if it’s a lie. Even- even if there’s no way we can win or save Marcy,” Anne pleaded desperately. “I just- please tell me it’s gonna be ok. I don’t know if I can-”

Sasha hugged her tighter and shut her eyes.

“Anne, I promised in Wartwood that it would all work out. I meant it. We’re gonna save Marcy, and we’re gonna beat Andrias.” We have to , she thought, but kept that part to herself.

They sat for a bit longer on the cold tile floor, but soon they heard the Boonchuys calling them.

Anne took a deep breath, wiping the remaining tears from her eyes, before up and holding out her hand.

“We should go.”

“Right,” Sasha said before taking Anne’s hand.

Anne pulled her up but came in for a tight hug right after.

“Thank you,” she whispered into Sasha’s ear. “I really mean it.”

Sasha smiled.

“I know,” she pulled away. “Now come on Boonchuy, we’ve got a war to win.”
