Summary
Eddie Diaz is many things, but he would never have called himself a victim. The closest he’d ever gotten was being shot in the middle of the street in Los Angeles, but even that had felt cold and indifferent. It didn’t feel like he qualified – victimhood feels personal, impactful, intimate. ‘Patient’ always felt more accurate, and even then he never really referred to himself as one; he merely allowed others to name him as such.
He realizes he is a victim on a Tuesday.
