Chapter Text
Nina Smith hadn’t always been Nina Smith.
That wasn’t even her real name.
Her real name didn’t even feel like her name.
In a kinder world, she would have been born and raised as Carys Jones, beloved daughter of Welsh parents, Catrin and Arthur Jones. Carys would have grown up with loving parents in a small town in Wales with a little sister who would have been born two years after her. They lived close the sea and loved taking trips to the beach.
But this is not that world.
In reality, Carys Jones had been kidnapped from her parents by corrupted secret agents from the Lab by the orders of Dr Francesca Hawk. Her parents fought them off as much they could, but were eventually killed.
Carys Jones was no more.
Now she was 009.
009 had been taken to a secret location in the Isle of Skye where other children had number tattoos on their arms just like her. They also had powers just like her.
Which is exactly why the Lab had taken her. Although, the rest of the children had telekinetic or telepathic powers, 009 only had the ability to heal herself and minor injuries on others (small cuts or bruises).
Or so they thought. Her actual ability was Biokinesis.
It wasn’t just healing – It was much broader than that.
009 was able to manipulate and create living organisms. Meaning that all the people around her were just flesh bags she could use to turn into plants, puddles of goo, erase from existence, turn into bugs/animals or absorb them for extra power. Using the biomass of plants, animals and even humans (including herself). Heal any wound or disease and even resurrect the recently dead. Change the structure of bodies and plants, create plants and even new types of plants never to be seen before.
The possibilities were almost endless.
Unfortunately for the Lab, they had only found that out during the Escape and the aftermath of that.
Those poor, poor doctors and agents. Not.
009 had always been the weakest of the experiments during her “stay” with the Lab. Among the powerful telekinetics/telepaths, her powers were quite lacklustre. Dr Hawk, or “Mother” as she insisted to be called, liked to frequently remind her of this fact every time they “spoke” in the most condescending, patronising way possible with a fake concerned expression on her face.
Bitch.
The other children were quick to pick up on this and bullied her just because they could. Especially 002 – that little bastard. Always thinking he was better than everyone (minus 001) because of his brutal displays of telekinesis during the tests. Why he wanted to please Dr Hawk so much, she’d never know. 009 was pretty sure the woman only saw them as fascinating objects that, while rare, aren’t irreplaceable.
After all, 009 wasn’t the only 009 in the Lab. There had been a boy before her who used to be 009, 001 had told her once, but he’d died after going over his limits during one of the Lab’s sadistic tests.
What a comforting thought for the new 009.
Due to her supposed “weakness” and lack of progress to see if she could develop any telepathic/telekinetic powers like the rest, the doctors proceeded to conduct more deadly tests for her specifically.
It was then that 009 knew what Hell was really like.
They had her test deadly poisons and sat there and just watched as it was pushed out her system by her powers, her screams of pain ignored. The same was done when they set her on fire, drowned in a bathtub, strangled to death (only to resurrect herself), beaten by the guards, shocked in a metal chair, starved for who knows how long and so on and on it went……
And they just sat there and took notes. No matter how much she screamed or begged for them to stop. They didn’t listen or care.
If she didn’t hate them before then she definitely did after that.
009 would have her revenge. Someday.
And the glorious day finally came after 001 somehow (miraculously) escaped his room (prison) and began killing any doctors/guards/agents he saw.
Till this day 009 still wasn’t sure if he’d planned this with the others because they too had soon joined him in the resulting blood bath.
Wasting no time, she too joined her “siblings” and deliberately ran towards the guard trying to capture her. The confusion on why she didn’t run away instead was plain on his face but soon cleared when she gripped his bare wrist.
Vindictively, 009 had watched as despair and pain filled his eyes as she slowly caused his skin to fall off, piece by piece. He couldn’t even scream much before she’d gotten impatient and rid him of his flesh, organs and bones. All that was left was a puddle of blood and other bodily fluids as it splattered on the ground among his remaining uniform.
Damn, that felt good.
009 remembered catching 001’s eyes as she continued her revenge while on the way out.
His large blue eyes (which she’d always found kind of creepy) had glimmered with respect and slight awe. She remembered being flustered and annoyed then. All it took was murder to impress him and acknowledge her existence? Really? It was no secret that 001 thought everyone was below him with the exception of 011, who he appeared quiet gentle with.
No surprise there. 011 was almost as powerful as him, despite her young age. He probably thought they were more alike and superior.
Trust him to only acknowledge you when have a sudden power boost. She didn’t need telepathy to know that she just went from useless cannon fodder to powerful (dangerous) ally.
Regardless, after taking great satisfaction in watching 001 kill Dr Hawk (she let him have the honour due to being captured the longest), 009 had left the Lab and never looked back.
For the first couple of years after leaving the Isle of Skye, where the Lab was located, 009 lived on the streets and in abandoned places in the UK, along with 008 and 006.
It was no surprise the that they stuck together, considering that they were closest thing to friends. They had each gotten along during the time at the Lab and 006 and 008 never looked down on her for her “weak” power.
She had tried to get them to leave or go her separate way, but the two always found her again or stuck to her like glue. Perhaps it was good thing considering they were just, to the normal public eye, a group of homeless kids wandering the streets in the 90’s.
She was only ten years old then while 008 was fourteen and 006 was eight.
It had been near the end of September when they’d left and Winter was soon to come. 006 made sure they stayed warm with her Pyrokinesis and even helped with the cooking. 008 kept guard and made it easy for them to be left alone using her Telepathy. Her illusions really came in handy when running from the policemen or thugs.
009 was in charge of food and healing. As disgusting as it was, she was able to gather all the rotten/uneaten food and make it new again, with no germs or anything. She’d first tested this on a rotten apple core, grabbed it with her hand and watched her powers erase all the rot, making it shiny and whole again before her very eyes. The left-over meat in the rubbish bins were trickier than the plants but she’d succeeded in the end.
It was fascinating to watch wasted/rotten food become new again because of her powers. She could even create her own fruits and vegetables! At first, she’d had to use biomass from another organism such as another tree, plant or animal to change it into the desired fruit/vegetable/meat she wanted. Now, she could create it from nothing due to her finally having more exposure to the Sun. Apparently, by absorbing more sunlight, she gained more power (like a plant) and thus allowed her powers to advance.
009 felt proud. She’d always been the weakest.
Take that Dr Bitch! Whose weak now?
She only needed Sunlight to heighten her powers, and those bastards never knew. How could they? Dr Bitch had them all “safely” tucked into an underground base. For their safety, of course. Not.
The sudden boost she got during the Escape was due to the amount of stress from the tests of torture that her powers has finally lashed out when she desperately needed them.
Now looker at her, years later, she’d finally mastered her powers but had no need of them other than when dealing with a random (unfortunate) agent sent from the Lab.
Because of course they’d want their “property” back.
Assholes.
No doubt they’d sent more after her for her “immortality”.
It occurred in 2003, she was only 21 then and had faced off against at least 20 agents all by herself. 006 and 008 had gone their separate ways a year ago so they weren’t there to help.
Those damned Lab agents had cornered her somewhere in the British countryside on her way to Wales, away from the public eye. Of course, they would. Bastards.
Unfortunately for them, 009 had mastered using he Biokinesis without the requirement of touch. So, it was pretty easy to control their bodies like puppets, her hands waving like a conductor as she slammed them into the ground or threw them in the air.
They did put up good fight though. Their weapons had some major updates and these agents were more, if possible, relentless than the rest. They brought that fucking shock collar for her!
One of them got too close for her liking with that damned collar, so 009 had him choke on his own blood as it filled his lungs and watched his face become a blood fountain.
It was last agent that gave her most trouble.
He was silent, never getting distracted by her taunts, and quick on his feet so she was too slow to grab him with her powers. It was pissing her off along with the stupid thunder storm that randomly showed up. At last, 009 had him in her grasp after controlling the tree roots underneath him and had his body squeezed like an orange.
Not a pleasant sight. But she was used to it.
009 had landed in a nearby pond when the last agent had died and was just coming out the water when a bolt of lightning struck her directly and all she saw next was blackness.
Thankfully, her regeneration powers had healed her up quickly before anymore Lab agents showed up. She checked her body for any remaining injuries but felt fine. Great even.
She was not fine……per say….
Ever since that day, her body had stopped aging suddenly. At first, 009 had thought her powers had slowed her aging. But, after a better examination, she noticed her cells regenerating rapidly since that day…..and was now stuck as 21 year old.
Thank God for her shapeshifting abilities. Using her powers to modify her body, she’d changed the colour of her hair, eyes and even facial features. Skin colour was too hard to do due to it constantly regenerating to the point where even a light tan was impossible.
How wonderful. She’d always wanted to be a vampire. Not.
Its 2023 now, 009 currently resided in small flat in Wolverhampton City under the fake name Nina Smith. The first name had been Ava’s (006) idea. It was the most similar to Nine. That was all she’d said on it when asked why. And that it was pretty. Typical 006.
Smith was the most generic surname ever so 009 had stuck with it. Anything that didn’t make her stand out was fine. Appearance wise, she’d changed her natural blonde hair to brown and her eyes changed from green to dark brown. Skin was as pale as ever so there was no dealing with that.
All in all, she was just another normal British “21” year old who worked from home, had no friends (besides her Lab siblings) and enjoyed staying indoors rather than going out.
Hmmmm….Isn’t it my day off tomorrow? I’ll grab some donuts from Lidl and watch some videos on YouTube.
Oh, how the Lab doctors would cry and scream in frustration if they saw her now.
One of their greatest experiments, subject number 009, gifted with the ability of Biokinesis, just wants to eat cheap donuts and watch YouTube videos all day.
