Chapter Text
Bakugou Katsuki has been through some shit.
This is not new. Everyone in his life could probably tell you his whole life story without missing a beat. It wasn’t news that Bakugou had been through some shit. They knew all of it.
"They" being his parents, his nurse, and his former Sensei.
He doesn’t talk much anymore. He has issues getting his words out correctly and it almost always pisses him off too much to even continue trying, so he limits his words these days. Speech is hard. It always has been for him, but this is a different kind of hard. This is a “My Brain Doesn’t Work Like This Anymore” type of hard. And it’s shitty, and he hates it, but he sees it as atonement. Something to pay for the shitty things he did.
His nurse does not see it like that, and it makes her upset that he thinks this way, so he tries not to bring it up.
His head hurt a lot today. He wasn’t sure why- it normally hurt a lot after things like therapy (which he only attends if someone drags him out of bed for it, and it’s mainly Aizawa who does it) or the doctor’s office- days when he has to somehow communicate things to people other than “bathroom” or “food.” And he hasn’t gone to either of those in a few months now.
He winced as he sat up to get out of bed, rubbing his forehead slowly. He groaned softly and lifted his legs so that he was sitting on the edge of his bed, the clock next to his bed blinking back at him the time. 10:38 AM. No one bothered to wake him up. Very odd. His nurse normally woke him up around five o’clock- especially on weekdays. He liked that. It was his routine- and it was nice. Very nice. He doesn’t even remember the last time he woke up this late, but he knew it was when he was still living with his parents after his accident. Which was… what, ten years ago? A long time, considering he moved out the second Aizawa offered to pay for the full-time live-in nurse.
He loved his parents, don’t get him wrong. Sure, his mom was rough around the edges but she loved him. He remembered waking up to her screaming at the people from UA at the hospital, yelling that had they done their jobs nothing like this would have happened.
Which was wrong. Had he not told Izuku what he did, none of this would have happened. All of this was his fault. His own doing.
He shook his head. Best not to think like that today.
Back to the first topic, it was weird that he was waking up this late. He stood up slowly, grabbing the cane by his bed to help him walk. He was starving, now that he thought about it. That must be why his head was killing him. He overslept and hadn’t eaten, surely that was the cause. He stumbled down the hallway quietly, leaning against the wall as he walked.
“K-K-Kaya?” He called for his nurse, his voice just a bit too hoarse for his liking. But she’d be happy that he was talking today. He didn’t say anything else, just continued into the living room.
“Katsuki,” a voice answered. Not Kaya’s. Aizawa? Must be, he’s the only person Bakugou knew with a voice that deep. He glanced up, meeting his Sensei’s eyes when he did.
Confused, Katsuki furrowed his brows. Did Aizawa tell him he was visiting today? He doesn’t remember. It’s not far-fetched that he’d have forgotten, but he looked serious.
“Come have a seat. People need to talk to you,” Aizawa said, stepping out of the way and behind Katsuki- firstly so he wouldn’t fall, and secondly, to keep him from running back to his room.
Katsuki looked at the couch, blinking rapidly. He clenched his jaw shut tightly when he looked at what he now assumed were the reasons for his headache.
The top three heroes.
Number Three- Kirishima Eijirou. Quirk: Hardening. Graduated sixth in his class at UA. Looked at Katsuki like he was the most heartbroken kid in the world when he’d learned what he’d done.
Number Two- Todoroki Shouto. Quirk: Half ice, half fire. Graduated third in his class at UA. Wanted to murder Katsuki when Izuku explained the whole situation to him.
And of course- because they were a packaged deal, weren’t they?- the number two hero’s husband- and, coincidentally, the Number One Hero;
Midoriya Izuku. Quirk: One for All. Hasn’t spoken to Katsuki since he was in his accident.
Katsuki stumbled backward for a moment before running into Aizawa, annoyed with having to force himself to stand up and annoyed at Aizawa for helping him to stay on his feet, though he wouldn’t admit to needing it.
“Kacchan,” Izuku spoke, standing up from the couch. “Long time no see.”
