Chapter Text
They stayed in Time’s Hyrule for around another week before a portal showed up to take them to the next Hyrule. Wild was slowly coming out of his shell in no small part thanks to Malon and Warriors himself was learning the basics of loftwing calls or Rito from Sky. Warriors first was learning calls that would have applications on the battlefield like the call for danger that Wild seems to subconsciously make. Although he couldn’t make them like Sky could and wasn’t about to try and get laughed at. However he felt he was at least learning to understand them. Warriors also noticed that Wild seemed particularly close to Hyrule and now Time. Time made sense with the Kokiri but Warriors couldn’t quite put his thumb on how Hyrule has. Wind was also worming his way closer but that was normal for the sailor. All this was things to think about later as right now they had a portal to go through.
When Warriors came through, he noticed the chain was in his Hyrule and wasn’t too far from Castletown. The chain was reorienting themselves and Wild donning his cloak made him realize, how in the name of Hylia was he going to explain this to Artemis. More likely than not Wild would be mistaken for a monster and Warriors accused of being a traitor or controlled. Even the simple fact that Wild was not bipedal could cause a host of problems for the chain and while Wild has his own version of Fi, Sunset if he remembered right, even that wasn’t a sure bet. Warriors was just hoping that cloak would at least get them to the castle.
When the chain did reach and enter Castletown the effect on Wild was immediate. He curled in on himself attempting, and failing Warriors might add, to look smaller. If it wasn’t for the magic in Wild’s cloak they would have already been stopped for questioning by now. Then just when Warriors thinks they might get through he sees a very uncrowded, guarded castle gate. Warriors just decided to face them now and hope they weren’t the swing first and ask questions later type. “Captain Link, I see you have a new member in your ranks.” Warriors nodded, “the hero of the wild joined us not too long ago.” The guard and his companion moved, “well we won’t keep you any longer, I’m sure you are in a hurry to introduce him to the queen.” Warriors didn’t let his surprise show and began leading the chain into the castle. He was sure they would have asked Wild to remove his cloak so what made them not. Perhaps they trusted Warriors’ judgment.
…
It was good to know the chain counted as a crowd. Wild had explained to Hyrule that his Korok cloak worked best when he was in crowded areas but then again considering how sparsely populated Wild’s Hyrule was, nearly more than his own, Hyrule supposed the definition of crowd was somewhat different. Hyrule also helped by letting a small amount of his own magic out to help cover up Wild’s own. Speaking of which, Wild's magic was very unique. Hyrule had only felt something similar from Sun and Farore when she spoke to them in Wild’s Hyrule. The other dragons also felt like that but that made sense to Hyrule. He would have to ask Wild or Sky if dragons had any connections to the goddesses.
They reached Warriors’ chambers in the castle and Legend immediately flopped onto Warriors’ bed Hyrule joining him before Warriors could complain. Warriors simply frowned and said he would go tell Artemis they were here. A few other members of the chain also left after setting their things down. After a little while Hyrule turned to where Sky was sprawled out on something Warriors had called a couch. “Sky, are dragons connected to the goddesses?” Hyrule felt Legend shift, most likely sitting up, as Sky looked at him. “If you're wondering about the dragons from Wild’s Hyrule, each one of them serves one of the golden three.” Hyrule felt his eyes widen, “so does that mean Wild does too. His magic is very similar to theirs.” Sky seemed to be thinking when they heard shouting in the hallway about a monster in the castle. Then Legend said something that made Hyrule’s heart freeze. “Where’s Wild?”
…
Wild decided he hated all castles with a burning passion. He had decided to explore leaving Sunset in Warrior’ room and had gotten himself hopelessly lost. Even the champions didn’t know the way back although Revali was currently looking for it. Then to make it worse his cloak got caught on a set of armor and as he was retrieving it a few guards saw him. Now Wild was running for his life from, as Mipha put it, short-sighted Hylians, again. Worse yet the fear from Wild’s first encounter with Hylians had never fully left him even after he regained some of his memories and it was taking almost all he had not to break down in panic. All he could do was keep trying to lose them.
Wild ducked into a random fancy room and then into the admittedly rather large wardrobe to hopefully wait until things died down. The room must have belonged to a female noble warrior if the armor he could see and the clothes he could feel was anything to go off. The entire room was spotlessly clean from what he could see as well. He was just hoping whoever the room belonged to didn’t enter as his tail was currently sticking out of his hiding place due to lack of space. Not to mention the claw marks Wild accidently left on the door in his haste to hide. However it seemed that Hylia wasn’t on time to bless him today as he heard the sound of a door opening and then being shut.
Footsteps came towards him and stopped right in front of Wild’s hiding place as he prepared to bolt as soon as it opened. However the person just stood there. It was deathly silent for a few moments and Wild assumed whoever came in was studying his tail or preparing a weapon. He was desperately hoping that whatever happened they didn’t pull it. Luckily they, or she based on what Wild could hear, spoke. “You can come out, I’m not going to hurt you.” Wild slowly opened the wardrobe door and was greeted by a lady who looked awfully like Zel- Flora. Wait a second…
…
Link had just left when Zelda heard that a monster somehow got into the castle. Immediately she began walking to her room to grab her armor as well as a proper sword, despite being a little puzzled at the hasty description of the monster she received. Zelda arrived at her room to see large claw-like marks on her door. She drew her sword despite the one she currently carried being ceremonial only and thus dull and slowly opened the door, only to almost drop it from what she felt. Zelda would have to personally apologize for her men’s behavior considering how heavily blessed by the Golden Three this creature was and that wasn’t even considering how it was nearly drowning in blessings from Hylia.
She walked towards what she could only assume was a tail sticking out of her wardrobe. It was probably frightened by the sudden aggression it received and attempted to hide in the first place it could find. After waiting a few moments in front of her wardrobe Zelda decided to try and encourage it to come out. “You can come out, I’m not going to hurt you.” She had no idea what she was expecting but a hybrid of a Hylian and some kind of scaled creature barely even fitting inside was not it. It seemed to recognize her in some manner however if the sudden panic in its features were anything to go off. “I would like to apologize for my men’s behavior. Normally they would be more considerate given you are at least partially Hylian.” It took a minute to calm the creature down and then it made a writing motion. Zelda was quick to grab some paper and a quill and hand it to the creature. It wrote in a flowing way that reminded Zelda of the way her grandmother wrote. When it was finished Zelda picked up the paper and read it. Hello. I am Link or Wild. I assume you are Zelda or Artemis?
Zelda was certainly not expecting that either considering the blessings she had felt on Sky compared to Wild in front of her would be like comparing a candle to a forest fire. “I see, it seems the royal guard needs to be educated on how to treat heroes. If you don’t mind me asking… What are you?” Wild wrote again as Zelda pondered how to find out who was the first foul-minded buffoon to declare what is obviously a divine creature of some kind a monster. Dragonkin or dragon child if you ask Naydra. … Zelda realized that now that she looked past the blessings, basically looking at him through a normal person’s eyes, the draconic nature was quite obvious. Not to mention the faint golden glow coming from the crystals on Wild’s tail, a blatant sign of divine favor from Hylia. Yep… Zelda was going to have someone executed.
…
Warriors was panicking. Right as he left to get Wild and introduce him to Artemis there was shouting about a monster in the castle. Then when he went to regroup with the chain he found out Wild managed to sneak out and put two and two together. Now the chain was frantically searching for Wild in hopes of finding him first and explaining everything. This went on for several minutes with them only finding his cloak before things started calming down thanks to Artemis declaring it a false alarm. She was also wanting to meet with all the royal guards. This included Warriors as being the hero technically gave him royal guard status. However, he told the rest of the chain to wait as he would prefer not to be embarrassed in front of the entire royal guard. This would also be a perfect chance to explain everything to Artemis and hopefully get her help. He was just hoping she wouldn’t be too mad about how vague he was earlier. He has had a few threats on his life for that in the past after all.
Warriors got there and took one look at Artemis’ face. She was planning to kill somebody. She sent him a look that he understood as “talk after this” and took two steps forward. “Who was the one who first spotted the monster?” One man either blind to the atmosphere or ignoring it stepped forward with a look of pride. “Would you care to describe it?” As the man gave a near perfect description of Wild Warriors couldn’t help but feel his dread grow. This would make this at least three times more difficult to explain. “Were you perhaps dropped on your head as a child?” Warriors was not expecting that from Artemis nor what she said as she continued. “I’m sure that one of the things every child learns is how to recognize Hylia’s influence, most commonly being a golden glow.” He knew she was right. Warriors was barely even religious and even he knew that, and he was now realizing how he had overlooked the fact that the golden crystals on Wild’s tail were always faintly glowing a golden hue. He couldn’t help feeling very stupid right now.
Then Artemis looked to the side and made a beckoning motion. Then out came Wild in all his uncloaked glory. Warriors also realized the spaces in his horns also had the same look as the crystals glow included and felt even stupider. Just not as stupid as the few who had been about to draw their swords before Artemis glared at them. “Is this what you saw?” As Artemis asked her question, Warriors saw a few of the ones who nearly drew their weapons place their hands on them again and prepared to intervene if needed. The guard who was standing in front of everyone else being questioned very hesitantly nodded. “I will send General Impa to collect you tomorrow, I need to review what the punishment for falsely accusing and attacking one chosen by Hylia is. You are all dismissed.” There were a few sounds of protest that were silenced by another glare and slowly people began to file out. Warriors breathed out a sigh of relief and hung back as the others exited just in case anyone got any ideas. “Don’t worry Wild, he still will be executed, I just want him to have some hope to crush first.” Well that is certainly something… she was talking about the idiot and not Warriors, right?
