She knew well rumination only spelled disaster in the long run, yet she couldn’t bring herself to stop thinking as she sat in bed. What she could’ve said, what she could’ve done, the guilt and shame both hung over her head. She felt bad for the actions like they were almost an innate part of her.
The night came where she broke, and so sitting in medical next to her patient, she cried her apology. They were both helpless and weak to stop it.
She opened the bottle and downed the contents, slumping against the floor in her small victory.
