Chapter Text

-How do we stay in contact while you’re gone?, asked Wednesday with a sigh.

-We’re taking the cop car. We can talk through out radio. We can stay in touch. But you can’t reach out first. Our car will have to be radio silent when we’re stopped or it’ll get stolen. So, I will reach out first every time. Maybe we can agree on specific times?, suggested Enid as she packed her backpack.

-At 10pm., suggested Wednesday, watching her girlfriend.

-Works for me., nodded the blonde.

-Enid, please promise me that you’ll be careful. It’s not because you might be immune that you should put yourself in a dangerous position., pleaded Wednesday.

-Willa, I already put myself in dangerous positions before knowing all this. But I promise to be extra safe and careful. Okay? You have my word., said the blonde calmly.

-Promise., said the younger girl.

Enid turned around and looked at her. She walked up to the bed Wednesday was sitting on, got on her knees and took Wednesday’s hands in her.

-Look at me., whispered Enid with a soft smile.

Wednesday sighed and looked up at her girlfriend.

-I’m going to be gone for one day. I will be with Sam. We were trained for these kinds of situations. Okay? She got my back. I will be safe. I can handle myself, Willa. I’ll be back before you know it., said Enid calmly, trying to reassure her girlfriend.

-If you come back injured or hurt-, started the younger girl.

-Accidents happen. We both know that. We will be okay, Willa. I promise. I will be okay., tried the blonde.

-You better be., nodded Wednesday.

-Can I get a kiss?, asked Enid with a chuckle.

Wednesday rolled her eyes before leaning down and kissing her girlfriend softly. Then they heard a knock on their doorframe.

-Sorry to interrupt but they’re ready and waiting for you., said Yoko seriously.

-I’m coming., nodded Enid, her eyes not leaving her girlfriend’s face.

Yoko nodded and left again, wanting them to have a proper and private goodbye.

-You will keep yourself safe. You will eat and drink water. You will not be late to our daily calls except if there’s an emergency. And you will always have a gun on you., said Wednesday seriously.

-Yes, Wednesday. I will do all of that., nodded the blonde.

-Promise me., said the younger girl.

-I promise., replied Enid, looking her in the eyes.

-Good., sighed Wednesday, still not reassured.

-I love you., smiled the blonde.

-I love you too., replied Wednesday instantly, like she had been waiting to say it.

Enid nodded at that and grabbed her backpack. Together, they walked downstairs and then to the driveway where everyone was waiting for them.

-Damn, you guys are acting like it the last time we’ll see each other., said Enid with a chuckle.

Amy came running up to her and hugged her tightly.

-I’ll be back soon kiddo, okay?, smiled the blonde.

Amy just nodded and then ran back to Yoko, holding her hand.

-Alright children. No parties while I’m gone., chuckled Enid.

-Be safe., nodded Divina.

-Don’t die., added Yoko.

Enid shook her head with a chuckle, looking at her girlfriend. She pulled her into her arms and pecked her cheek.

-I’ll be back soon., smiled the blonde.

Wednesday just nodded, hugging her tighter.

-Any time now., sighed Sam, waiting for them.

-Fuck off., said Enid as she pulled away from Wednesday.

She pecked her girlfriend lips and then walked away. She got in the police car with Trent and Sam, getting in the driver’s seat. Ajax had marked the way on an old map for them, so they’d know where to go and what places to avoid. Enid started the car and drove out the driveway through the gate, waving at her group as they left.

-Trent, what if your aunt is still there with your cousin?, asked Enid, looking at him through the rearview mirror.

-They won’t be. The house was on sale before the apocalypse happened. So it’s either empty or there’s strangers hiding in it., shrugged Trent, looking out the window.

-Alright. Noted., nodded the blonde.

-What do we do if people are living in that house?, asked Sam, looking at her old friend.

-We will see if they’re dangerous or harmless and then adapt., stated Enid with a shrug.

-Right. I’m more of a 'shoot first and ask later’ person., said Sam.

-Sam., warned the blonde.

-Fine. I’ll ask first and then shoot., pouted the other girl.

-Mhm., sighed Enid, her eyes on the road.

They spent the next 5 hours on the road. It would usually take less but a lot of street were blocked or just impossible to get through. They eventually made their way to a smaller town in San Diego called Carmel Country Highlands (i dont know, ask google). They drove up to Trent’s uncle’s house, pulling over. They was no sign of life as Enid parked the car.

-Let’s go check out the place. Let’s clear it., said Enid as she got out of the car.

Sam quickly followed her and took her gun out. Trent just stood behind the two, not sure how to help, especially when they entered the place and the two started giving each other hand signs that they most definitely learned from the army. He just watched and followed Enid closely. After going around the entire house and not finding anyone, they all made their way to his uncle’s office. Trent walked up to the safe and typed in the code. But it didn’t open.

-Uhm we have a problem., said Trent with a frown.

-What?, asked Enid, now looking at him and the safe.

-The safe doesn’t seem to have any power left. Look. It usually shows when you type in numbers but the screen won’t even light up., explained the boy.

-Fucking hell., sighed Sam, shaking her head.
