Chapter Text
The group had agreed to look for Weathery together. Doorstopper stayed quiet, thoughts flying through her head a million miles an hour, every single one of them about Weathery. This was reminding her of the snowstorm. Then again, almost everything was at this point. What changed between them then? Why was she scared to talk to them? While the others talked amongst themselves, she kept replaying what happened in her head.
“...”
“You are genuinely one of the nicest people I know Weathery…please..”
She remembered the relief she felt when they lowered back to the earth to greet her and the rest of the team.
So…why was she avoiding them now? If anything, they should be closer than ever. She wanted to be closer.
“Uhhm..Doorstopper?”
Crazy Food snapped her out of her thoughts. “Y-Yeah?” She just barely spoke up as she responded, and her mind stayed clouded. Clouded..Cloud.. Weathery. Great. Another thing to remind her of them. She jolted to a stop when she realized why Crazy Food got her attention. The team was knee-deep in floodwater.
“Oh dear..” Tea, being the shortest member there, had climbed on top of Landscape to get above the water.
“This..oh..guys, this is bad–” Doorstopper swiveled around to face the others, worried. “You don’t think this is because of what I..” She already knew the answer to her question. She hurt Weathery’s feelings, she was the one who upset them.
“We need to find them,” Landscape commented.
“Mm..is anyone here a good swimmer?—” Doorstopper was met silence. Sighing, she stayed in thought.
Landscape spoke up. “Well, I don’t have a face, so I’m not really susceptible to drowning..you all could maybe use me as a raft?”
“Good idea! Doorstopper? What do you think?”
Doorstopper nodded. “Anything to get them back safely so I can apologize..”
The team walked over, and the four managed to flip Landscape horizontally into the water, each one carefully climbing onto them.
Doorstopper stayed quiet, sitting on the edge away from the others. She felt bad for ignoring Weathery, that she’s the reason its flooding right now, and that she didn’t know why she was doing it in the first place—why even though she desperately wanted to spend time with them, and wanted to comfort and reassure them, she couldn’t. She can’t. And the others suggested that she was in love..? Sure, she wanted to be around them 24/7, and was now sulking because she couldn’t be. Sure, she wanted to constantly feel their warmth, and wanted them to know how much she lov…
Oh.
…
Oh.
She looked over at the others. They were talking, laughing, having fun—as she just sat at the edge, staring into the water. They were right... She was—....
She buried her face in her knees. This was stupid. She just wanted to find Weathery. She had to find them. She had to apologize. No wonder she got so nervous around them. Why was everyone having so much fun, this was important, this was her fault, she couldn’t just— she had to find them, she had to apologize, she—
Tea sat down next to her. She didn’t even notice at first until she felt her hand on her 'shoulder'. She flinched slightly, her eyes darting to look at her.
“Doorstopper, calm down..”
No, no, she had to– she needed Weathery, she needed to find—
“Doorstopper…look at me. We’ll find them. We did last time, didn’t we?”
“This- this isn’t last time though, this– th– this wasn’t because of one accidental lie, this–” Her words caught in her throat.
“I have full faith we can fix this. Right, guys?”
Everyone enthusiastically agreed with the statement. If Landscape wasn’t ‘face’first in the water, they probably would’ve agreed as well.
Doorstopper sighed, trying to clear her head. “Okay..let’s try to—” Thoughts started flying through her head again. No..—Deep breaths. She had plenty of time to process everything later. “Let’s just— try to find them as soon as possible.”
