Chapter Text
TWO-BIT’S POV
I should probably be in third period right now. Begging for school to end early for no apparent reason, and for me to never have to go ever EVER again. But what am I doing? Skippin’.
Walked straight out the door of my second class then out those school doors. What? It’s not like they’ll expel me for skipping again. I mean—not right now, atleast.
Yeesh, I needa get better at tolerating being there.
Anyway, like I was goin’ on about. My doors are never open when I want to come home early. My moms still busy with her job.
But, there is one house that is available: The Curtis’!
Since Darrys been outta school, he usually just unlocks it. Which, one, is a terrible idea but also a great idea. For me atleast. But, two, leaves me with a place to stay when I’m on my skip days!
The door had been unlocked by normal. I walked in like no problem; what else was I to do? Go home? My mom woulda killed me. I walked in to be greeted by—not Darry—but Soda?
“Soda?” I questioned with a furrowed brow, “whatchu doin’ here so early?”
Now that I thought about it, I never saw him in school the whole week (to be fair, it was only tuesday.) I guess I never got to thinkin’ about it.
He sat there fidgeting with his hands in the ‘ol Soda fashion. His smile way more crooked and—artificial.
He hitched a sigh, “Y-yeah I…I dropped out,” and for the first time ever, Sodapop Curtis was quiet and somber.
Shoot, this is serious-serious.
Don’t get me wrong, Soda can be serious whenever he wants, but this is a different kind of serious. I only seen him like this whenever his parents died. It’s a horrible thing to see; I could feel it in my heart like I experienced it.
Soda sat there—elbow resting amongst the arm of the couch, head in his hands. He’s holdin’ back tears, and I can see it so clearly.
“C’mon, dude,” I ran quick to sit next to him, arm on his shoulder. “Don’t let yourself get all down with this. It’s for the best, ain’t it not…?”
He nodded, “I guess, it’s just—“ He cut his sentence short, wiping tears from his eyes, “I just look so dumb now. Ponyboy’s got a bright future, Darry was a sweat on the football team and he literally roofs houses! What do I have to show?”
Poor Soda, he don’t even know his own worth right now.
“Don’t say that!” I exclaimed, “For one, you got the pretty boy title.” I guess I know how to cheer people up by how he giggled to my response.
“Plus, uh…Ooh! You’re really good at singing and dancin’, aren’t ya?” I say. I remember Soda always wanting to audition for those lil’ school plays during middle school. Wonder why he never joined.
Still, he’s always had a gift for the arts and allat shit. I’m sure he could put that to use somehow…
“I guess,” he replied, “but what good is that if I ain’t got nothing to show it off with?”
SODAPOP’S POV
I guess my comment really got to Two-Bit the way—in the blink of an eye—he lit and started rummaging through his phone. He sure is determined! What for, though?
In a matter of seconds, “HERE!” exclaimed Two, shoving his phone right in my face.
The phone was oddly warm, I could feel it cause he was literally pressing it up against my face! I yanked it outta his grip, “Stop that!”
Its screen was popped up to a website. A website I knew very well, infact.
“Not this again…” I groaned. And again, one of my friends are begging me to sign up for an audition at on of the most well-known idol agencies in all of America.
For one, I’m not that good! Atleast I think. They always say I don’t know my own strength sometimes, but c’mon. Who bets some kid in Tulsa would make a pretty little popstar?
Two, jeez my schedule would be packed.
But I guess that’s sort of what I’m asking for anyway…A distraction from school.
I scrolled through the website just to make sure it was legit. To be honest, I ain’t that convinced. Looked poorly made, but, hey, you only live once. What’s the harm in this anyway?
So with a sigh, I muttered, “…Fine, I’ll sign up.”
Two-bit’s eyes filled with glee. Like literal sparkles were entranced in them. I laughed. Guess he couldn’t help but starting to laugh aswell!
There was no fee involve, which was good. I would feel terrible takin’ a buck out of anyone’s pocket for this.
“Send me the link,” I stated. “They call for a small introduction in my sign up sheet. If I were to record my introduction on your phone you’d be laughing your ass off at me!”
Two-bit shrugged with a smirk, “your choice! As long as you audition.”
I saw the link in my text messages, and clicked it. Guess I’m really doing this shit.
