Darry flipped over the folders to the front side and saw the words SODAPOP P. MITCHELS and PONYBOY M. MITCHELS written in bolded letters. So they were brothers. Now he understands them wanting to stay together, he would too if he had kid brothers.
Or: Darry is a Soc and fosters Sodapop and Ponyboy, they learn about each other along the way. But soon enough a certain drunk Soc might ruin it all...

He didn’t know what the hell was wrong with him. He just knew he didn’t want it to be true.
It was wrong. He's not allowed to look at guys that way. He clenched his fists at the thought of him being. He wasn't gay. No, he isn't gay.

So when that church appears over the horizon, consumed by flames, he wheels Buck’s car around, puts it in gear, and guns it.
Running ain’t new. Running’s all he’s ever known.
In the face of the church's blazing ruin, Dally does what he does best - protecting Johnny and Pony. Fires burn, lives are torched, and the story goes up in flames.
