'Does this mean I can call ya now?' Heiji asks in his next letter, still a little worried but not wanting to presume.
A few days later, the teen answers his phone without looking and hears, “Yes, you idiot. Just don't abuse the privilege.”
It's a relief to have Kudo back to his usual snark after that strange phone call, which nearly had Heiji hopping the next train to Tokyo. He never wants to hear the other detective sounding that bleak again. However, the storm seems to have passed now and if it comes back around, at least Heiji knows the signs.
So he tells his fiance, “I make no promises. I'll call ya when I wanna,” and he's sure they'll be all right when Kudo laughs.
