Be Sweet

Summary:

Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth have two sexual encounters before they decide to talk about what the hell is going on.

Notes:

Sort of shat this out quickly. Enjoy.

Work Text:

How many time was Phoenix going to find himself in this situation? Where did it all start? Sweat, skin, touch. He felt too hot, too caught up in the moment to process it. But if he really had to pin point it, it was very probably about a month ago.

“You know, this fancy stuff ain’t half bad.” Phoenix admitted. His eyes were fixed on his cup, swirling what little wine still remained - he watched in a daze.

“Yes, quite.” Edgeworth added before he took a thoughtful sip, “You learn that, maybe, when you drink at a price higher than 10 dollars and move beyond the drug store liquor selection, you might find some truly hidden gems.”

They’d been hauled up in Edgeworth’s apartment. Dimly lit and sprawled out on his expensive couch, both reclined in a rather undignified way, well undignified for Edgeworth, and quite usual for Phoenix.
They were celebrating. Celebrating what exactly? Well a lot of things but also nothing in particular. Both of them had wrapped up a few cases in the past month, but it was mostly the ‘finalising documents’ and ‘sorting things to be archived’ type of wrapping up and not the ‘confetti in the court room’ type. Their time was spread thin, and they’d had to cut out their usual lunch meet-ups. And whenever they did meet their conversations were brief and utilitarian, the type of conversation you’d have with a neighbour in a lift if you were so inclined to do either of those things. So maybe they were just celebrating the return of their free time.

“Har-har.” Phoenix had said dryly, and then gulped down the rest of his drink. He wasn’t quite drunk yet, but he’d been buzzed enough to feel the flush in his cheeks. “Everyone should be thanking me up and down that I was hooked on cheap wine instead of-“ He’d picked up the bottle by the neck, a bit carelessly, and then eyed the label “-Barbaresco.”

Edgeworth had made a bit of a face at the joke – nose scrunching up, eyes squinting in a grimace, then he’d slightly rocked his head side to side to signal his judgement and still deciding on if he disapproved.

“What? Too soon?” Phoenix had said, a bit sarcastically and a bit snide.

“I don’t know, you tell me.” Edgeworth took another sip from his glass, eyebrows raised in deflection. Then thoughtfully “It disappoints me to see you take such a malicious jab at the expense of yourself and your previous circumstances.”

“Can’t you just say you don’t like it when I’m a big meanie in front of you like a normal person?”

“You deserve to be….nicer to yourself” He’d made an attempt.

“Have you gone soft on me Edgeworth?”

“I’ve always been soft on you.”

“Careful Edgeworth, those are fighting words.”

“Hardly,” And when he’d said it, it had the twinge of a dare and the bitterness of some personal irony Phoenix didn’t have all the pieces to - but recognised none the less.

“I think you’ve had too much to drink.”

“And what makes you say that?” Edgeworth finally looked up from his drink and met Phoenix’s gaze, his eyes had never seemed so threatening – like some siren’s allure. Phoenix swallowed thickly. “I’d rather you not project onto me, I’m not some lightweight,” Edgeworth downed the rest of his drink and set it on the table.

Phoenix couldn’t stand it. Couldn’t stand the way Edgeworth looked at him, the way his eyelids hung heavily and half lidded; the way his mouth quirked up slightly when he was teasing; the way his stupid perfect hair had still been stupid and perfect even in that moment - slightly messy with a few strands disobediently out of place; the way the single dim lamp had cast the shadows on his face, warm accents and soft edges accentuating his beauty, like a thoughtfully lit painting. It made him look more human than he’d ever looked in court;

“Miles.” Phoenix said, dangerously, heart pounding in his chest and an emotion stuck between lust and malice sat in his eyes. Edgeworth had looked at him with a little shock, but schooled his expression back to that relaxed façade. Phoenix had known him too long to fall for it, the rest of his body betrayed him – the way he’d sat up a little straighter, the slight tap of his index finger. “Yes?” It was careful – cautious. Edgeworth’s eyes followed as Phoenix rose to stand in front of him. “Phoenix?”

He didn’t know who had started it, but Miles’ lips were on his, and his hands were already snaking their way along Phoenix’s back. Eventually they stumbled from the living room to the hallway, all the way to Miles’ bedroom. Phoenix had only noticed when his back hit the sheets. Miles stood in front of him and had quickly unbuckled Phoenix’s pants, pulling them down swiftly – he didn’t get too far with his own, only unzipping them enough to hang precariously from his hips as he climbed on top of Phoenix. He had let out an embarrassing sound as Miles grinded against him, but he’d been too ecstatic to care about being embarrassed. They kissed, drunkly and greedily, Phoenix couldn’t pull him close enough. Miles quickly moved to further undress Phoenix, delicate fingers slipped underneath his boxers and slid them off. Suddenly Phoenix had became very aware of the situation he was in. Firstly this had not been how he expected this situation to go, he didn't expect Miles to be the one taking the lead; second he had thought this would have come much later, you know a few dates, a confession, first kiss, the classics. But before that train of thought could go anywhere else, Miles' hand was on his dick.

The morning had hit Phoenix like a truck. He had woken groggily, head pounding with the sounds of Miles stomping around the room.

"Phoenix, get up." He'd said sternly. "I'm late for work, which means you're early."

Phoenix had thought it too early in the morning to be taking jabs. Despite Edgeworth's demands he wakes right away, Phoenix had laid in bed a little while longer, hearing Miles storm in and out between the bedroom and the bathroom. As he rose, he had been immediately hit in the face with his own shirt.

"Get dressed, now." Was the only thing he'd said. The night prior had made Phoenix feel...awkward, nervous even. His heart pounded loudly in his chest, and the minute Edgeworth would reappear in the room Phoenix could feel his anxiety spike. Edgeworth clearly had other priorities. He heard Edgeworth's phone ring for maybe 1 second before the sound was replaced with Edgeworth speaking in rough and rude tones to someone. Somehow his non-acknowledgement of the situation had eased Phoenix, but also left a feeling of disappointment. Had this been a one night stand? A mistake?

It hadn't been for Phoenix. He felt as though he'd blown his one chance at something deeper, something more meaningful with Edgeworth.

The second time was unexpected. It lacked the pretence of wine and dimly lit glances. It had been about two weeks since their encounter, both had seemingly gone back to their lives. Phoenix had to just go about his day as though he didn't intimately know the feeling of Edgeworth pressed up against him.

He had been grabbing a file from Edgeworth's office - a favour. He knocked and entered before Edgeworth could give him the go ahead to enter. He watched as Edgeworth's eyebrows furrowed in annoyance before relaxing at the realisation that it was just Phoenix.

"Hey," Phoenix had said casually.

"Ph- Wright." He nervously tapped his pen, "Ah, the file."

"The file."

"You don't need it too urgent do you? I'd just like to finish this up,"

Phoenix waved his hand in approval and Edgeworth continued whatever was keeping him. Phoenix had meandered a little around the office before sitting down on the couch. Things hadn't been...awkward between them but...something about their conversations seemed charged. But neither wanted to be the one to admit it. With a bit of a huff, Edgeworth stood suddenly from his desk and walked over to one of the shelves. He pulled out several pages from a binder and slipped them into a manilla folder. Then he had taken a few strides over towards Phoenix, eyes still glossing over the documents.

"Now, I had forensics run some tests on the samples-" He'd begun. Phoenix eagerly stood up to meet him, quickly he grabbed the folder to look over its contents. His eyes scanned over the pages quickly before meeting Edgeworth's "Thanks Edgeworth, you're a life saver". He hadn't noticed how close he'd stopped in front of him, to preoccupied with his curiosity. He felt...a little cocky. "You're looking at me like that." It had been a confrontation, a dare. "Like what?" When he had said it, 'what' was caught on half a grimace, annoyed. Phoenix held his gaze. "Goddamn it." Miles whispered under his breath before cupping Phoenix's face and kissing him roughly.

Phoenix had the forethought to at least throw the folder in the general direction of the coffee table. He brought them down to the couch. Miles hadn't stopped kissing him, Phoenix tugged at the prosecutor's pants earning him a moan from the other. He quickly switched their positions, climbing on top of Miles and grinding against him. Miles' hands were beginning to wander up his shirt and pulled him in closer. Phoenix had began to unbuckle Miles, a bit awkward from his current position but he'd managed to anyway.

He'd parted from Miles getting up to get down on his knees. "What're you-" Was all Miles had managed to slur out before Phoenix had unzipped his pants. He padded at Mile's underwear with his mouth, wetly outlining his cock, teasing him a little before pulling them off. He wasted no time getting him in his mouth. Miles had let out a choked whimper, his hands balling up beside him. Phoenix bobbed his head several times, taking him in full, before resting a little at the head, sucking it in shallow dips before dragging his tongue from the top to the bottom of the underside of his shaft. He had planned to take his time, but couldn't get enough now that he was sat here in front of Miles with his cock shoved down his throat. His hands came up to help pump at his base and allow him to take each one of his balls into his mouth. Miles had been reduced to nothing but moans and small pleas.

Nearing his climax he'd taken Phoenix's hair into his hands, pushing his head down further and faster. "Phoenix- Phoenix I'm close" was all he managed, he had pulled Phoenix's head up, the saliva and precum sticking promiscuously to his lips. Phoenix took one look at Miles, dishevelled and flushed with his cock so tantalisingly in front of him. He had a job to finish, he had taken him back in his mouth much to Edgeworth's surprise. It didn't take long before he was cumming inside Phoenix's mouth, his hand came down instinctively to keep Phoenix there as he came. He gagged a little, causing his eyes to water-up. At the sound Edgeworth's hand came away, an apology waiting on his lips. Phoenix had pulled away a little from his cock and rested at the tip, using it almost as an aid to prevent the cum from spilling out of his mouth.

He swallowed it and pushed down a few times before finally dislodging himself. Edgeworth had looked at him - almost astounded, and Phoenix himself was in a bit of a daze. But soon his obligations had come crashing down on him.

"Shit! I gotta get the file back to the office." He stood up quickly and grabbed the file.

"W-wait?!" Miles managed before Phoenix was half way to the door. He had very quickly pulled his pants up and strode over to Phoenix.

"What?" Phoenix had said a little impatiently, not wanting to stay here for when the impulsiveness of his lust had faded and the embarrassment hit of what he had just done.

Miles floundered a little before him. First, he had quickly fixed Phoenix's hair and wiped his mouth with much embarrassment. "W-what about you?" Was all he managed.

"What about me?" Phoenix retorted, and when Miles hadn't responded fast enough Phoenix had fled from his office.

And that left them in the current moment. They were back at Edgeworth's apartment, Phoenix was sat on top of Miles riding him. His head was nestled in the crook of Mile's neck. Mile's hands were on his hips guiding his motions as Phoenix lifted his hips up and down. Phoenix lifted his head to look at Miles and take him in, it seems Miles was doing the same. Miles pulled him in, gently kissing him - first at his jaw, then the corner of his mouth, before finally kissing him properly.

Phoenix frowned against his lips "We should stop this" he murmured.

Miles suddenly stopped, shocked. He lifted Phoenix up from his cock "Wait, not now" Phoenix whined and moaned as he tried to slide Miles back in. Miles slipped him off and onto his side

"Phoenix, you cannot say 'we should stop' and then expect me to what?" He gestured with his hands.

"Sorry..." He said awkwardly.

"There's nothing to be sorry for," His tone was soft but still annoyed, it would've been enough to make Phoenix smile under different circumstances, but now he was just feeling foolish and embarrassed.

"I was just...ugh thinking out loud," There was an awkward pause between them.

"Well...I'm glad you told me...was I..." Miles had moved a bit away from Phoenix allowing him some personal space, and while the thought was sweet it was the last thing he wanted. "Did I do something to hurt you?"

"Ah, no - it's not that..." Phoenix began "I just...I feel bad since it...I feel like I'm using you..."

"Using me? Phoenix Wright, explain yourself." He turned slightly, crossing his arms.

"I've enjoyed..this" Phoenix began.

"Okay. I mean - Good. That's good to know. Me as well."

"But...I think I have a bit more...investment in this than you."

"More investment? I'm not sure I'm following, I feel as though we're both....rather involved in this activity...Unless you mean at my office to which-"

"No-no, not like that- Miles." Phoenix looked at Miles. His hair was tousled, his face slightly red, he was putting on a brave face but Phoenix knew the emotional vulnerability was getting to him. Phoenix runs a hand through his hair and then continues. "I don't want this to be casual, I mean it's not - it hasn't been for me." He takes another pause to consider his words. "I love you." He says it plainly. More of a statement - cards on the table versus some declaration of love. It was deceptively casual, as though it wasn't some devastating cosmic feeling to Phoenix.

Miles doesn't say anything. Phoenix searches for something, anything, in his face but he's too nervous to parse through anything. Still he's glad to have it out at least. "Listen, I'm sorry - I'll just go and we can pretend-"

"Phoenix Wright you'll do no such thing." Miles goes to reach out towards Phoenix but hesitates, then pulls his hand back. "I am...truthfully...glad. You've said this." He begins very slowly, considering each word, "I would've never-...When we-....I mean I didn't know what to make of-" He motioned between the two of them, naked.

"Miles, full sentences please."

"I love you. It's reciprocated"

Phoenix broke out into a laugh "You're so lame."

"Excuse me-?"

Phoenix closed the gap between them to kiss Miles, REALLY kiss him. His heart pounded in his chest louder than it had ever, maybe because now he knew it wasn't just sex, there was nothing to ache over. Miles gently pulled Phoenix's face in.
