Work Text:
Since Dana and Abbot knew and were able to finally get Robby out of the house with the help of Dennis. They had invited them to coffee in the park and food before work. They were warming up to Dennis, which in turn had gotten them an invite to drinks at a nearby bar. Dennis didn't mind; he liked the idea of going out and drinking with them, but Robby, on the other hand, didn't. It would take some convincing on Dennis’s part, which he had some ideas in mind.
“Come on," he whined, as he leaned close into him as Robby made breakfast. "We don't work tonight; we are off the hook for one night, and all you want to do is…stay home?" he kissed Robby's arm. Robby didn't seem pleased to be loved on, but it was Dennis’s way of showing love to him and also getting what he wanted.
Dennis’s hand went down the other’s back, before his fingers found the belt loop on Robby’s pants. If he had to, he would tease him. Robby closed his eyes and took off his glasses to rub his eyes. Dennis had been doing this for a while, so the other had to be annoyed by him at this point. He knew he had him now. "It will be fun; it is far from the hospital and not the bars any of the other med students go," he whispered as he leaned in to kiss his cheek. Robby sighed. "Fine, alright," he groaned in frustration.
"I want something in return for you dragging me out to a bar," Robby said, placing the spatula down on the counter before wrapping his arms around the waist of his boyfriend. “Anything," he replied.
Robby smiled and took a hand to cup the other’s face and press their lips together. The pleasure from just kissing was like fireworks still even after months of dating. He pulled away, and while their lips barely touched, Robby spoke. "We leave whenever I want," he softly. Dennis laughed softly and gently pressed his lips against. "Of course," he said when he had pulled away from Robby and walked off.
The bar wasn't far from the hospital at all. Robby knew that just a few blocks from where they were was the hospital, and he wasn't pleased.
"Oh my god! How did you manage this, Whitaker?" Dana said with a smile on her face. She had done her makeup and hair and was dressed in decent clothes for the bar and weather. Dennis shrugged a little. “You uh don't wanna know," he scratched the back of his neck while not making eye contact with Dana.
Abbot raised a brow at Robby. He didn't want the details. He really didn’t, but he did see a faint mark on Dennis’s neck. Robby eyed her and then Abbot. "You want me here, and I'm here," he said as he opened his arm before he crossed them over his chest.
Finally, they walked into the bar. They had picked a booth in the corner. Dennis and Robby sat right next to one another, Dennis being able to see most of the bar, including the door. He wasn't worried about being seen, even if this was the first time they had ever exposed themselves like this. They had been seen at stores, parks, and anywhere but at bars.
"So, how are we enjoying the day?" Dana asked. Abbot took his leave to get a round of shots and beers for them. Dennis hadn't drink in a while. His legs bounced as he waited. “Well, the car had broken down," Robby said as he leaned back, his fingers tapping against the table. The car had decided to stop working when they went to the store that day. Dana groaned as she knew the pain of car troubles. "And well, Dennis here fixed it."
"You are telling me you know cars?" Abbot asked, looking at Dennis as he came back with shots in one hand and beers in the other. He placed them down as he sat down, passing them to everyone. Dennis nodded and grabbed the beer bottle and took a sip.
Dennis hummed as he placed the bottle down and spoke. "I worked on most of the equipment when it broke down, so I know a thing or two about cars. And it was a simple thing. The battery was loose," he said with a shrug.
“Well, I think we can cheer for Dennis! For knowing about cars," Dana said as she raised her shot glass. That was the first time that she had ever called Dennis his actual name. He cracked a smile and raised his shot glass before the other two. The glasses clinked together, and they took the shot. “Whoo! Which means you are working on my car if I have troubles with it," Dana laughed.
Dennis shrugged. "Yes, ma’am,“ he said with a smile.
The night was at least young for Dennis. He had taken many, many shots. The warm feeling he felt was a good one. He hadn't had a drink in a while, and he felt relaxed, but he was going to feel it tomorrow morning when he woke up. He became another person when he was intoxicated. He was pretty much talking to anyone who would allow him to. The older members were surprised as they watched him dance with the manly women on the dance floor.
“Man, I remember when he wouldn't even talk to anyone," Dana said as she leaned back. She had switched from beer to a martini, wanting to feel ladylike, but she was stealing sips of Abbot drink. "I am going to switch to bourbon if you don't stop," Dana laughed. "You would never," she replied.
Abbot laughed. He swayed a little. “Oh, I remember when he had spilled that white stuff all over him...poor boy was so helpless on his first day. Is that why you like him?" He asked Robby, who wasn't even paying attention to the two of them. Abbot and Dana both followed where he was looking, and it was Dennis because of course it was.
Dennis had the brightest smile on his face, his hair stuck to his forehead, and a beer bottle in hand. He was dancing, though it was the women he was dancing with, no guys around them whatsoever. The three of them could see that he was talking to the girls, and the girls talking to him.
“They aren't flirting," Abbot said. Robby finally decided to look away from his boyfriend and now to his best friend. “What?" he asked, confused.
Abbot started to wave his hand to the group. “When I was working day shift one time, they came into the ER and the two wearing the dresses are married and the other one is a single mom," he said. Robby thinned his lips as he looked at Abbot, then turned his head back to Dennis.
“He’s too drunk and I want to go home," he said as he leaned back, though he could see that Dennis was having fun and he didn't want to stop that. Abbot looked at him "what's stooping you?" he asked with a raised brow.
Robby sighs and rolled his eyes "I'm going to watch and wait until I can go get him without being called-"
“A creep," Dana said, laughing softly.
Dennis came over, out of breath. He placed his hand on his shoulder. "You should come…agh god and meet them," he giggled, tilting his head to the side and looking at him. Robby looked back at him, his face was red, laughing for no reason at all. This was his chance to get him and Dennis home, so he went.
He got up and was dragged to the group of women. "Hey! You’re back," one of the women had said so loudly that Robby was sure it was louder than anyone in the bar. “And-“ she gasped. “Looks like you weren't lying! You are dating a handsome man," she said finished with a grin on her face. It was the first good reaction he had ever heard when people found out that Dennis and he were dating; they only got the weird looks and an awkward laugh.
"I am! I am!" Dennis laughed and leaned close to Robby. Maybe they would sit a little longer as they sat on the couch the girls had rented. Dennis leaned on Robby, having his legs over his. Robby placed his hands on Dennis’s legs. "So you work together?" Abby, she was around her thirties at least, that is what Robby had suspected and also the one single mother.
Robby nodded a little as he looked over at Dennis who had curled up to him. "That is so nice" She said as she looked at the others girls coming back after going to the bar "Okay! so I got some shots!" The girl in the pink had said as she sat down on the couch.
Dennis laughed at every little thing. It was adorable. Robby’s hand didn't move a muscle off his boyfriend’s thigh; he rubbed his thumb on his inner thigh, but the other hadn't noticed it even when Dennis had moved to grab the shot from the girl "thank you!" he was loud that made Robby wince.
He had to lean over and whisper something in Dennis ear, to try and get him to stop. When he had taken the shot, Robby was quick to grab the glass out of his hand. "you're done for, no more drinks. got it" he muttered against his ear. He heard the soft whine from Dennis.
"Oh why!?" he gasped as he didn't want to be cut off so soon. Robby laughed "because you had one to many" he said and Dennis pouted as he looked over and away from Robby and with blurry vision he could have sworn he had seen someone he knew, but with the lights and the crowd. He didn't know what he saw, so he turned his head back to the conversion and leaned his head onto Robby’s shoulder.
The next day, Dennis had one hell of a hangover. He didn't know how many shots he had taken or how many beers, so when he got to work that night, Dennis planned on staying at the nurses’ station the entire night. He didn't want to move nor take his sunglasses off.
"Here you go," Dana said as she placed coffee next to him. "You look like you need it," which he groaned in response as he took the cup.
"I don't even want to ask how much I drink," he wanted to bury his face into the coffee. Dana laughed. “Where is you know who?" She asked. Dennis raised a brow. "Robby is on the roof with Abbot," he leaned back in the chair.
Dennis knew that Robby and Abbot were friends, good friends, and they needed their time with one another, and he understood that. Dana hummed and patted him on the back before walking away.
"So…why are you wearing sunglasses inside? You know, people who do that are douche bags" Santos raised a brow at him. Dennis, though she couldn't see it, narrowed his eyes at her. She was talking way too loud for his head liking. “Why are you talking so loud? And why did you make a reference to supernatural?" he asked, his face crumbled in confusion. Santos grinned as she pulled her phone out of her scrubs.
She pulled up a picture and turned it over so Dennis could see it. He blinked as he tried to make out what the picture was. Finally, he grumbled and took off his glasses to be able to see better, and what he saw made him panic. He quickly grabbed her phone and stood up. “What…how do you have that?" he asked quietly. Santos grinned as she looked at him. "Oh, I was at this bar yesterday, and I saw someone…who looked oddly like my boss, and then I saw someone who looked a little like my old roommate."
Dennis looked at her, the smile on her face knowing that he had been caught and there was proof of this. "I don't really think this is how you sit with a boss," she squinted her eyes for a second at him.
He looked at the photo, sure enough it wasn't. Dennis had his legs over Robby's, Robby’s hands were on his thigh, one hand even too close to his crotch for anyone’s comfort. Dennis took a deep breath. “Okay! We have been dating for half a year now. I live with him, the reason why I moved out, and we can't be talking about this here." He was quiet. Santos looked at him, stone face before she cracked a smile and laughed a little. She grabbed her phone out of his hands. "I won't tell…if you tell me everything after work."
Dennis thinned his lips, rolled his eyes before he nodded. “Fine…just leave me alone. I am hung over," he said and plopped himself back into the chair. Santos laughed loudly. He winched and placed the glasses back over his eyes.
Abbot and Robby finally came down from the roof. They two eyed Dennis and Santos as they walked past and stopped on the other side of the nurses’ station. Santos grinned at Robby. The two looked at one another before she spoke. "Nice to see you can handle your liquor, lover boy. Robby face faltered, eyes going to Dennis who waved his hand as he muttered, “We shouldn't have gone to the bar." He groaned. They three laughed as Dennis tried to get away from the laughter. It had been hours and yet his head still hurt.
