Sleepwalker

Summary:

Jake and Neytiri discover that Lo’ak is a sleepwalker.

This is unbeknownst to Lo’ak as well; so when he wakes up the next morning in his parent’s hammock, he’s very confused.

Work Text:

Jake and Neytiri slept peacefully in their hammock in their home. It was a peaceful night; the soft sound of wind blowing was heard outside, and all of the Sully’s slept peacefully in their hammocks.

Nothing was out of the ordinary…well, that was until Lo’ak stood up on his feet while he was still unconscious.

His eyes remained open, but his brain remained asleep. The sleeping teen slowly and silently walked around the room for a short amount of time, as if he were looking for something without even knowing it.

The sound of his soft footsteps were loud enough to awaken Neytiri.

“Lo’ak?” Neytiri asked quietly, her eyes fluttering open. She herself was still half asleep, but her son’s tall figure standing next to their hammock caught her attention.

“Is everything alright?” Neytiri whispered, concerned for her little one.

Was it a nightmare? They knew Lo’ak used to sleep with them when he had a bad dream, but that was years ago before he deemed himself ‘too old’ to do that.

Lo’ak didn’t seem to be distressed though. The look on his face was calm, almost like he was dazed.

Neytiri’s soft voice made Jake open his eyes with a yawn. “Is everything alright, sweetheart?” He asked, arms protectively tightening slightly around her waist to hold her close.

Neytiri nodded towards their youngest son, who was silently standing beside their hammock.

Jake lifted an eyebrow, sitting up slightly to get a better look in the dark room. “Lo’ak?” He asked quietly. “What’s wrong?” He asked when he didn’t receive an answer.

Lo’ak remained silent, his breathing steady. Jake curiously stood to his feet, looking down at his son. He waved a hand over his face, noticing how he didn’t even blink. Neytiri watched in confusion. “What is wrong?” She asked.

“I think he’s sleepwalking…” Jake guessed. His guess was correct; Lo’ak was, in fact, sleepwalking.

“Sleepwalking? I’ve never heard of that before.” Neytiri said, the term completely unfamiliar to her.

Jake easily scooped Lo’ak up into his arms, carrying him back to his hammock.

“C’mon, son. Back in bed with you.” He said, gently laying him down in his comfortable hammock again. Jake placed a soft kiss on Lo’aks head, stroking his hair before walking back to bed.

“He’s fine. Sleepwalking happens sometimes with sky people, too.” He told Neytiri, wrapping his arms back around her as she rested her head on his chest and cuddled up next to him.

“Oh, alright. As long as he’s okay.” She said with a soft smile, her eyes closing in peaceful relief.

Now, they could go back to bed.

That was until they heard those same soft footsteps mere moments later. Opening their eyes, they looked to the side and saw Lo’ak standing there yet again.

Neytiri couldn’t help but to giggle softly behind her hand, finding the situation amusing. “Looks like he missed us.” She joked.

Jake chuckled quietly, shaking his head. “Even in his sleep he’s stubborn.” He joked playfully.

Jake felt that way about all of his kids, to be fair. They were his stubborn knuckleheads, though. He loved and deeply cherished them all, stubbornness included.

“Lo’ak, baby-” Jake trailed off softly as he sat up, getting ready to get out once again to put Lo’ak back in bed.

He was interrupted though as Lo’ak crawled into his parent’s hammock, snuggling right in between them.

Neytiri held in a coo, not wanting to wake him up. “Oh, our little baby!~” She whispered. He was adorable!

Jake smiled, protectively wrapping his arms around his wife and his son. He knew that if Lo’ak were conscious, he’d be too shy to be affectionate like this.

Lo’ak being openly affectionate with them became rare. He always groaned when he got forehead kisses and cheek kisses from his parents, something about ‘being too old’ for them. As far as they were concerned, however, that could never be the case.

So, they decided to just let their sleepy boy get some rest in their hammock tonight. He got in it himself, after all.

Soon, Neytiri and Jake also went to sleep. Eventually, Lo’ak’s eyes peacefully closed on their own, warmly cuddling up against his parents in his sleep.

The next morning, Lo’ak’s eyes slowly opened. He felt so refreshed. That was the best sleep he had in a while! He looked up at the roof of their home, still half asleep.

“Good morning, baby boy.” A familiar voice said next to him. Lo’ak’s eyes widened, now wide awake. He turned his head to look beside him. “D-dad?” He asked, confused as hell now.

“Did you have sweet dreams, my dear?” Neytiri’s gentle and motherly voice asked, gently cupping the boy’s cheek. Lo’ak blinked, still trying to process what exactly was happening.

How did he get in his parent’s hammock? He remembered very clearly falling asleep in his own…

“Did…did you guys put me in your hammock?” Lo’ak asked. Neytiri shook her head with a chuckle. “No, you actually came into our’s yourself.” She replied.

Lo’ak looked at both of his parents, eyes wide and full of questions. “I-What?” He asked. Jake nodded, confirming what his wife had said.

“It’s true; I even tried to carry you back to your hammock, but you just got back up and made your way into our’s.” Jake said with an endeared smile.

Lo’ak’s face turned purple, blushing as he took in all of this new information. “H-how? How is that even possible?” He asked. “You were sleepwalking.” Jake said.

“Sleepwalking?” Lo’ak repeated the word. Jake nodded. “It happens sometimes to humans, but I didn’t know that it was still possible to happen to us.” Jake said with a shrug.

“I guess you learn something new every day, hm?” He said, gently playing with Lo’ak’s hair.

Lo’ak covered his face as his parents snuggled him. “Guysss!~” He moaned half heartedly, face blazing.

Lo’ak felt so small and childish at the moment as he was fussed over. Neytiri and Jake shared a mischievous and playful look, nodding in agreement.

Suddenly, they began placing soft kisses all over their second youngest’s face.

Lo’ak groaned, begrudgingly just accepting the affection. He could already tell they’d be bringing this up at dinner for decades to come, and he wasn’t even awake to remember it! Lo’ak knew he was never going to live this ‘adorable sleepwalker moment’ down.

“At least the others are still asleep...” Lo’ak said in relief.

“Awww~” Neteyam’s voice was heard.

“This is so cuteee!~” Kiri squealed.

Lo’ak facepalmed, covering his face. “Oh for the love of-“

“Cuddle party!” Tuk exclaimed, hopping into her parents hammock alongside her brother and snuggling against Lo’ak’s chest, wrapping her arms around him.

Before Lo’ak could say anything, his other sister and oldest brother joined them in their parent’s hammock, much to their parent’s amusement.

So, they all cuddled and snuggled with their favorite sleepwalker in their parent’s hammock that lovely morning.
