A portal tears open beneath them.
Dark. Familiar. Wrong.
Anton tightens his grip, claws biting into the floor, wings wrapping instinctively around Marcel like a shield.
“Fight it,” Anton begs. “Please. I’m right here. I love you. I—”
Marcel looks at him one last time.
Fully. Clearly.
“I love you too,” Marcel says softly. “Don’t forget me.”
The pull yanks.
Anton screams as Marcel is ripped from his arms, feathers torn loose, fingers scraping desperately at empty air—
And then Marcel is gone.
The portal snaps shut.
Silence crashes down like a body hitting water.
