Work Text:
“Do you know what tomorrow is?”
The question startled Avid. “Uhhh,” he thought for a moment, “the fourteenth?”
Scott chuckled lightly, “yes, that is correct, dear.”
“What’s important about it?”
Scott looked surprised, “have you never celebrated Valentine's Day?”
Avid shook his head, “I know what it is, I've seen stuff about it sometimes.”
Scott tightened his grip on Avid’s hand, “well, we’ll have to change that.”
Avid brightened, “ok!”
They continued their walk in comfortable silence.

Scott was busy planning the best Valentine’s Day for his wonderful boyfriend. He was determined to make it spectacular.
He was never one to celebrate holidays much, being an immortal vampire made human festivities pass by all too fast for much consideration.
First things first, research. What was commonly associated with Valentine’s?
A list was soon compiled, with some help from a nosy Shelby:
-Hearts
-Roses
-Chocolates
-Assorted candy
The last two were completely irrelevant to the vampires, so that left hearts and roses. Scott could work with that.
Some common color schemes he found were shades of, red, pink, and white.
He could work with that.
He set off towards the craft store. An excited Shelby in tow. She wouldn’t admit it to Scott, but she was looking for something nice for her wonderful friend, Drift.

Upon arriving at the craft store, Scott’s eyes were assaulted by the same colors he was seeking.
“Well, seems we’re in the right place then.”
Shelby wholeheartedly agreed, “we can definitely find some great stuff for th- I mean him.”
Scott eyed her suspiciously, he knew exactly what she was talking about.
As they wandered about the store, Scott spied the perfect thing, unfortunately not for his beloved, but for Shelby’s.
He held up the heart-shaped pink monocle, “I found something for you girlfriend.”
Shelby turned on her heel, she gasped, “it’s perfect! She’ll love it!” Scott smiled, she hadn’t denied it. Shelby seemed to notice the particulars of his wording, “Drift’s not my girlfriend!”
“I never said it was Drift~”
If vampires could blush, Shelby’s face would fit right into the store. She stammered about for a moment before realizing this was a fruitless argument.
They walked out of the store with: colored construction paper, glue, glitter, sequins, fake roses, and the all important monocle.
“Soooo… whatcha gonna make?” Shelby asked, arms overflowing with red and pink.
“I’m not quite sure. I’ll do more research,” Scott said, very focused.
Shelby let out a small laugh, finding his serious disposition funny, considering what they were planning for.

“This is not going well.” Scott sat in the living room, Shelby would jokingly call it the ‘dead-room’ occasionally, considering their living status; covered in glitter, glue, and scraps of paper.
Shelby hummed in agreement, in a similar state of disarray.
They had convinced Drift to take Avid somewhere for the day. The deal required only a slight bit of bribery. Those two were easily distracted, but they would be returning soon.
The only result of their hard and arduous work were two small cherry hued cards. Inside said cards was a multitude of glitter both vampires sincerely regretted adding. In the cover of each one was a heart stamped with the name of their beloved.
The cards may have looked like a kindergarten class’s attempt at something sweet, but it’s the thought that counts. Right?
Inside the one Scott made for Avid was a sweet message of being grateful to spend eternity together.
Inside Shelby’s for Drift, was a confession. A confession of love. Shelby hoped one day she could write Scott’s words in their own card, for Drift.
Scott’s phone buzzed. “They’re coming back.”
“WHAT! I’m not ready!” Shelby scrambled to their feet.
The pair quickly tidied up the mess and changed their clothes.
In the shopping trip Scott had found a small bat plushie, decorated with heart sunglasses. He had snatched it up with inhuman speed.
The door opened, the sound of familiar voices filling the space.
Avid and Drift froze upon seeing the pair surrounded by homemade heart decor and flowers.
Drift walked in with awe, “did you guys make this? It’s amazing!”
Shelby answered with a giggle, “yes we did! I’m glad you like it!”
Avid rushed over to Scott, hugging him tightly. Scott could only reciprocate the embrace with one hand, for the other was occupied by holding the glitter-bomb of a card. And the all important bat plushie, of course.
Scott leaned his head atop his boyfriend’s, “I missed you too, dear.”
Avid whispered into his ear, “is this Valentine’s Day?”
Scott chuckled quietly, “yes, darling. Yes it is.”
He pulled away, “I have something for you.”
Mulberry eyes looked into blood red with fascination and excitement.
Scott handed him the card and stuffed animal that looked suspiciously like Avid’s own bat form, except with cooler glasses.
Avid immediately fawned over the thing, “it’s so cute! I’ll name him… Olm!”
Scott laughed, this was exactly how he expected the younger vampire to react.
Avid now seemed to notice the poorly constructed card. He read it and immediately pulled Scott into yet another bone-crushing hug. His voice no more than a whisper said, “thank you Scott, I love you too.”
Shelby seemed to be getting the same treatment, Drift was much louder with her response than Avid, “YES! Absolutely, yes!”
Scott leaned back to kiss his wonderful boyfriend. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Shelby shouted something as she walked out the door, “me and Drift are going out! We’ll be back by dinner, I promise!”
The door slammed shut. Scott laughed quietly, “looks like we have the house to ourselves.”
Avid seemed quite pleased with that revelation.
Avid moved to sit on the couch, making grabby hands in Scott’s direction.
Scott shook his head, “I need to clean this up, darling.”
Avid pouted, the end of his statement being a drawn out whine, “not you don’t.”
“Yes I do.”
Avid got up and helped, if only to make Scott his sooner. The work was quickly finished.
The two vampires sat on the couch, almost on top of each other but not quite. Avid soon amended this.
Avid had his legs swung over Scott’s, his arms entwined around his neck. “See? So much better than cleaning.” He spoke the word ‘cleaning’ as if it physically pained him, his nose scrunching up in a way Scott found adorable.
Scott laughed slightly at Avid. He pressed a kiss to his cheek, “I agree, darling.”
Avid looked into the red eyes of his beloved, “this is the best Valentine’s Day.”
Avid lay his head down on Scott’s chest. Scott wrapped his arms around him, holding his close.
Scott hummed in agreement, “the best Valentine’s Day.”
