Summary
Avid gasped, tears filling his eyes as a sharp pain pierced his gut. His vision was blurring, exhaustion pulling at his muscles. He needed food. He needed meat he needed-
There.
A sheep, blinking slowly up at him. It's pristine wool shining a lovely white. Why was it even awake, Avid thought numbly, hands curling around the handle of his axe, didn't it know there were predators in these woods? Vampires could hunt it. Monsters. There were monsters in these woods.

Summary
He hears something, and he realises it's what woke him up, a litany of background noise buzzing pleasantly in his ears. Voices, three people, familiar.
It hits him all at once, if he had breath in his lungs he would have lost it, he knows whose voices those are.
Drift's lilting register carries a conversation, Shelby chimes in with enthusiastic chatter, undercut by velvety tones that could only be Scott.
They're still here.

It was like a dull ache, a throbbing wound that refused to heal. The chill permeated the flames, their clothes, their skin. It settled deep in his soul and refused to leave, curling into his frame like a stubborn leech.
"Marm" he whispered to her softly, voice hoarse "I'm so cold".
"I know" she muttered back "Me too".

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" Shelby asked worriedly, ducking down to meet his eyes "We can always come back another time" she assured him. Avid smiled, shaking his head.
"I'm okay" he replied "I owe her this, at least. If I leave now I don't know when I could ever come back".

It really was.
There were no amount of years Scott could have lived to be prepared for this moment.
“Shelby. Drift. .. .. why are we bringing the outdoors indoors?” Scott gestured wildly at the massive tree that the two fledglings had dragged through the front door.

Every Christmas Eve, the Coven hosts a party at the castle with everyone from Oakhurst invited. The next day, they go over to open Christmas presents at Cleo and Pearl's house. Shelby is determined to make this year's party perfect, and Avid is a little too focused on one particular perfect vampire.
