“Rich got engaged?! I’m so happy for him!” Christine smiles at the phone, moving closer and attempting to zoom in on the picture. “They look so cute together!”
“Right?! He told me he was going to propose. I’m so proud of him!” Jake exclaims happily. He had mentioned earlier that the two were still close, almost the same level as Jeremy and Michael’s friendship. He assumes they catch up frequently. “My boy’s a star, and he’s getting married!”
Because of Christine trying to get a better look at the post, the phone screen shifted to be mostly facing her and Jeremy. Michael settled back in his seat, not bothering to make an effort to contort his body into weird positions, all to see a picture of something he’d rather forget existed. He doesn’t feel that hungry anymore.
He tries not to let it show.

Michael finds out that Rich got engaged. Why does this discovery hurt so much?
