[Andropov can be seen nodding his head in approval. The camera shifts, and we can see Wilson, Comeau, and Olsson.

Boiziau, off camera: "I still can't fucking believe it. It's like" (Translated from French) "You think you know a guy, and he goes around and stabs you in the back for some ugly, no good russian idiot!"

Olsson: "I say we break more than his face. Get his legs while we're at it. See how he likes to be on his knees for Rozanov now."

Schneider, off camera: "Guys, be serious for a moment. I have an important question."

Boiziau, off camera: "What?"

Schneider, off camera: "Do you guys think he looked at us in the showers?"

Gagnon: "Ewww fuck, why did you have to say that? Now I keep thinking about how that Homo must have jerked off thinking about my dick."

Comeau: "Shit, man, I shared a room with him like seven days ago. What if he, like, touched me while I was sleeping?"

Andropov: "You would wake up if someone touched your dick, idiot."

Comeau: "I'm a strong sleeper! One time, my ex tried waking me up with a blowie, and I just kept sleeping!"

Schneider, off camera: "Shit man, you gotta get tested for that gay AIDS shit."

[The door opens, the room goes quiet. The camera shifts to reveal Shane Hollander standing at the door, Hayden Pike behind him. Pike makes his way into the locker room and out of the frame.]

Hollander: "Uh, I didn’t mean for you to find out this way, I wanted to talk to you before, but-”

Andropov: “Sure you did.”

Hollander: “I didn’t want you to find something else through the news, so I will not be finishing the season here.”

Hollander: “I want you guys to know that it was not my decision. I have been... it was an honour, playing for this club, playing with you. This decision was made for me, and I truly wish you guys the best of luck.”

Olsson, off camera: saying something very quietly.

Hollander: “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you.”

Olsson, off camera: “I said, finally, a good decision from Vance.”

Pike, off camera: “Olsson, shut the fuck up.”

Olsson, off camera: “Of course, you stand up to the fag. Probably bends over for you, too, huh?”

Hollander: “That is out of line. You are allowed to be upset, but-”

Comeau, stepping into camera view: “Upset? You have been throwing games for your little boyfriend just so he could fuck you in the ass, and you talk about being upset?”

Hollander: “I've never thrown a single fucking game. I never have and I never will. Just because Ilya and I are together does not mean we go easy on each other on the ice, and you of all people should know that, Comeau. Or did you conveniently forget that your girlfriend’s brother is Cale Wagner?”

Comeau: “That’s different, and you know it. I don’t suck her brother’s dick.”

Hollander: “I don’t see why it is. I have played against Ilya countless times, just like you played against the Admirals. No one has ever accused you of letting Cale win, so what’s the difference here?”

Drapeau, off camera: “Oh come on, do you think we’re stupid? We have eyes, Captain. You want us to believe that, what, you suddenly don’t know how to skate when he’s around?”

Hollander: “Excuse me? I still have the highest scoring rating and puck possessions than all of you. I have more assists this year than in any year before at this time, and I have scored multiple times against Ottawa, while Rozanov was playing.”

Drapeau, off camera: “And yet we don’t win against him. You think we're stupid? You get dicked down at the beginning of the season, and suddenly you can’t play against Rozanov?”

Hollander: “I play against Rozanov the same way I always have. He is one of the best players this league has ever seen, and yes, when you play against someone that good, sometimes you lose. Saying he needs me to throw away a game for him to win is not only ridiculous, but downright stupid.”

Drapeau, off camera: “Oh, please, we all saw the difference.”

Hollander: “Saw what exactly? Because I have been ‘dicked down’ by Rozanov since our rookie season, you dense, idiotic asshole.”

Laine, off camera: “Rookie season? But that’s-”

Hollander: “Almost ten years, yeah. So, if you want to accuse me of misconduct, that means the three Cups I won for this team are invalid. Because it has always been him. It was never anybody else, and I still managed to drag this team to the top."

[silence]

Hollander: "There isn’t a single person here who knows a version of me that isn’t in love with Ilya Rozanov. I have loved him since before I joined this team, and I'll love him long after I leave it. So you can be upset, you can call me a fag and decide that everything I have given for this team means nothing, but deep down, you all know that I never lost on purpose. Deep down, you know I love this team. You know I chose to stay here instead of moving to Boston, even though they offered me a whole lot more money. You know I stayed here instead of living with the love of my life. You know I have sweat and bled for this team, so don’t pretend like you don’t know me, because I am the same person I have always been.”

Berkes, off camera: “I just don’t understand why you had to go and fuck Rozanov of all people. Like, were there no good men here?”

Hollander: “Berkes, you are married to a woman from London. You are literally moving there at the end of the season to be with her. You of all people should know that you don’t get to choose who you fall in love with. It just... happens. And for me, it was Ilya.”

Renaud, off camera: “I just-”

Hollander: “No, I’m not done talking. Every single one of you is able to go home to your wives and girlfriends. You have a safe space, a person who knows you better than you know yourselves. And if you don’t have one yet, then you have the freedom to go out there and find them. You get to have a life outside of hockey. You get to be happy and fall in love and live. Why the fuck shouldn’t I? I have given everything for this team, and you want to tell me that... what? I should live the rest of my life lonely because that would make you more comfortable? Fuck no.”

Boiziau, off camera: “You could've told us-”

Hollander: “J.J, you don’t know shit about what I could or couldn’t do. Even if I wanted to- and I didn’t, because I was afraid you would react the same fucking way you are reacting now- did any of you think for a single moment about the fact that Ilya is from fucking Russia?”

Hollander: “Huh? No? That’s weird. What, Olsson, you're telling me you wouldn’t share a secret if it would endanger Roby’s life? How weird.”

[Hollander gestures with his arms to his teammates]

Hollander: “Come on, Stedlund, you wouldn’t tell us you are dating Thalia if it meant she could never go home again without the threat of dying? That’s not friendship. What about you, Berkes? Would you share your secret with us, even if it meant Shila would never be able to visit her mother's grave again? And you, Comeau, you would feel safe sharing a secret that could very well mean Katie would be kidnapped and killed? Because I sure as shit hope you wouldn’t.”

Berkes, off camera: “None of those things would have-”

Hollander: “No? Abdulmezhidov Adam Isaevich. Abdulkerimov Side Ramzan Ramzanovich. Alimhanov Islam Aliev. Tsikmaev Sultanovich Ayoub. Yusupov Shamhan Shayhovich.”

Olsson, off camera: “The fuck is that supposed to mean?”

Hollander: “Those are the names of five people who were kidnapped, tortured, and killed for being gay in Russia, you ignorant idiot. Five out of hundreds, and those are just the ones that were reported. You want to tell me again how I’m overreacting?”

Hollander: “The love of my life could be taken from me at any moment. Russia can revoke his right to be here, kidnap him, take him away from me and everyone who loves him- and I wouldn’t know. They could charge him for being gay, take him to prison where- Where people don’t fucking come back.”

[Hollander wipes his eyes with his sleeve and then starts laughing]

Hollander: “What the fuck am I doing? Why the fuck am I even explaining myself to you? I don’t owe you shit!”

[Hollander doubles over with laughter. He then straightens up and wipes his face again.]

Hollander: “I left Ilya, the love of my fucking life, alone at home to come talk to you guys. Why the fuck did I do that? I spent years on this team. I met every single one of your girlfriends and wives. I babysat your kids. I have given everything for this team- hell, I won us three fucking Cups. Why am I talking to you like I owe you something? This team owes me everything they have!”

[Hollander, turning his back to the room, turns to look just above the camera at the last moment]

Hollander: “I’m sorry you were drafted here. I know you had big expectations, dreams about winning the Cup, and making friends. I am really sorry that this is what you get instead. Good luck next season, huh?”

[Shane Hollander leaves the room]

It was supposed to be a nice day. Shane and Ilya had nothing to do until 4 PM and were enjoying a rare morning of quiet domesticity.

Watching videos of people verbally abusing your husband has a tendency to ruin nice days.

So instead of reveling in a rare morning of quiet domesticity, Ilya was on his fourth phone call with Harris of the day while Shane and Yuna were talking to Farah. Wonderful.

“-just do not go on there.”

“Harris, I get it, ok? Stop calling me to tell me what to do, and go think about the nice and sweet way we should talk about the people who wanted to break my husband's legs.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end before Harris responded. “Ilya, you know that’s... You know I’m not worried about my job, right? I’m worried about you because this is heavy, and you are my friend.”

Ilya felt the shame rising in his throat and choking him. “Yeah, I know, it’s just- They can say all of that, and I can’t even go online now? They just get away with it?”

“They won’t,” Harris reassured him over the phone. “I promise you, Ilya, when this is done, no sponser is going to touch Montreal with a ten-mile stick.”

“Ok,” Ilya breathed. “I talk to you later, ok?”

“Ok, just...” Harris hesitated. “Just call Troy or me if you need anything, ok? This can’t be easy on you.”

“Ok.”

It had, indeed, not been easy on him.

Every fiber of Ilya’s being burned with the need to go out to their garage, get inside the ‘practical jeep’, drive to Montreal, and burst into their training center with a baseball bat.

However, he had a feeling that his husband would not be exceptionally happy if he had to visit Ilya in jail, and the very last thing he wanted to do in that moment was cause the love of his life any additional pain.

He has been through enough.

Shaking his head, Ilya moved to seat beside his mother-in-law and leaned in to listen to the conversation. It was going to be a long day.
