Chapter Text
Getting into the swing of things was easier said than done, in Izuku’s opinion.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he helped with production on Present Mic’s show, and on Sundays, he ran his own show with his production team made up of Rin, Mika, Mira, and Arthur.
He blew up all over again, and it made him very happy to see that many people enjoyed the analysis he did rather than being bullied for it.
On his slot, he had a basic quirk to talk about rather than a whole script like Mic, since he tended to get off track easily. He would talk about whatever he found about said quirk, and then the last fifteen minutes of his slot were to take fan calls and give them ideas about their own quirk.
At this moment, he was on that part of his show.
“You’ve reached Wisp!” The radio host said, “What can I do for you today?”
“Hi,” The shy, but honest-to-god beautiful voice said. “I was hoping you could tell me if my quirk would be good for heroics? I’ve been told a lot that it’s a villain's quirk, but I want to be a hero.”
Izuku hummed in understanding, “Well, first, I want to say that there is no such thing as a hero or villain's quirk. It’s a tool in your arsenal, and it’s how you use it that makes you a hero or a villain. Second, what is your quirk?”
“Brainwashing,” The voice whispered, though sounding a little stronger than before. “It’s a call and response.”
Izuku’s eyes lit up. “Oh my kami! You have an amazing quirk for heroics!!” He gushed, “Imagine this! You can get a fight to stop before it even begins with call and response, especially if you’re really good at mimicry. I would suggest practicing if you aren’t good at it right now. Mimicry will help you A LOT in the future. Oh! Or a vocal changer, that could help a lot as well.”
“Sorry, that was a little fast.” Izuku finished, a small laugh leaving his mouth. “Let me know if you didn’t catch any of that?”
“Mimicry and a voice changer, basically?” The person confirmed.
“Got it in one!” Izuku said, “But your quirk is definitely perfect for heroics, honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve heard in a while! Underground heroics would be perfect for you, like Eraserhead!”
“You know Eraserhead?” The person said, their lower voice lighting up.
“Know of? Of course I do! He’s the best hero, honestly!” Izuku replied easily, “He mostly works with quirkless combat. I admire him for that since I was quirkless.”
“Understandable,” they said, rustling from the line like they were nodding. “Anyway, thank you for answering me. Your answers mean the world to me, and I’ve been a fan for a long time, so actually getting to talk to you is an amazing opportunity.”
Izuku blushed and was thankful he was an anonymous voice on the internet (radio now?). “Of course, have a good night!”
Izuku answered a couple more calls before his segment ended.
“Great job, Zuks!” Mira gushed as soon as everyone was sure the mics were off for the show. “Your first solo show was a success!”
Izuku grinned, wide and happy in a way that a normal teenager would have, which made his team extremely happy to see. They did their normal post-show breakdown before Izuku split to work on next week's show before going home for the night.
“Hey, Wisp!” Hizashi called, knocking on the office door of the said intern.
“Come in, ‘Zashi,” Izuku yawned, pushing his laptop to the side. “It’s open.”
Hizashi pushed the office door open, closing it behind him and plopping onto one of the sofas in the room. “Just as a reminder, U.A. internships are coming up soon. You know the drill with those.” The blonde said, flicking through something on his phone.
“Yeah, I remember,” Izuku replied with a nod, “Who’s coming again? I know one of them is Shinsou-kun.”
“My son’s boyfriend,” Hizashi said with a slightly feral smile. Izuku drew from the same chaotic well, returning the smile. “Aizawa’s got our kid, but Kaminari, that's the boyfriend, needs help controlling his quirk, so he’s interning with me.”
Izuku’s eyes sparkled. He remembered seeing Kaminari’s quirk during the sports festival. “I have so many ideas for him, Zashi, can I please work with him?” the teen asked, giving his best puppy eyes.
Hizashi caved, like he always did. What can he say? He had a soft spot for his full-time mentee. “Fine, but I’m not sicking you on him until day two, minimum! He needs to settle first.” Hizashi finally said. “AND! All of your school work for the week has to be done.”
Izuku pouted, crossing his arms. “Okay, okay, got it.” He said, though the smile on his face read otherwise, once Hizashi laid down the school work clause. “Challenge accepted.”
Hizashi raised an eyebrow, but let it go, finally finding the picture of his son and Kaminari that he wanted to show Izuku. “Kaminari with my kid,” Hizashi said, turning his phone over to the white-haired boy for perusal.
Izuku took in the picture, finding both boys attractive, though he would never say that aloud, especially to Hizashi. “This is such a cute picture!” Izuku replied instead, “You sure that’s your kid, though? He looks like a mini Eraserhead.”
“Definitely my kid,” Hizashi said with a chuckle, “I signed the adoption papers, no takebacksies.”
Izuku giggled too, “So Kaminari is coming here, and where’s Shinsou doing his internship?”
“Hitoshi’s doing his internship with Eraser, ironically.” Hizashi said, “He’s learning how to use the capture weapon right now.”
Izuku made a noise of excitement in the back of his throat that vibrated the plastic on his desk, “Eraser is teaching someone to use the capture weapon? That’s so cool!” He signed, gesturing big to show his enthusiasm at the news.
Hizashi smiled at Izuku’s obvious excitement.
“What’s Shinsou’s quirk?” Izuku asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
“Mmm, that’s one you’ll have to ask him yourself,” Aizawa said, popping up in the doorway, nearly sending Izuku out of his chair in surprise. “Sorry for intruding. Zashi wasn’t in his office, so I assumed he was here.”
“You’re good, babe. I was just letting Izuku know intern week was coming.” Hizashi replied, slipping off the couch in preparation to leave. “Though Shou’s right, he’ll be here a bunch for joint training with Kaminari, so you can always ask.”
Izuku pouted at not getting the information from Hizashi but nodded anyway, “Got it!” he signed.
“Make sure you don’t stay too late, ‘kay?” Hizashi told Izuku. “Inko will have my head if you’re not home by eight.”
Izuku rolled his eyes fondly, but started gathering his stuff to leave as well. “Yeah, I was just working on next week's show. I can work on it later, though, I’ve got an exam to study for.” Izuku whispered, shoving his laptop into his backpack.
“Good luck!” Hizashi said, and then took his exit with Aizawa, leaving Izuku on his own.
